“If there aren’t any questions, I think that’s it,” I said.

My staff dispersed, and I turned to my sister.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, frowning. She eyed me, her blue eyes sharp. “What’s going on?”

“It’s nothing.”

“When are you going to learn you can’t lie to me?” Carletta asked. “You look like shit.”

“Thanks,” I said. I pinched the bridge of my nose between my thumb and forefinger. “It’s just been a tough…”Day, week, month, year.“Life.”

Carletta smiled sympathetically. “Yeah, I know.”

“Come to my office,” I said. “I need to talk to you about something. I need your advice.”

Carletta followed me, and we walked through the club to my office. When I glanced into the office Oaklee had been assigned with her promotion, it was empty. Where the hell was she?

“What’s going on?” Carletta asked when we were in my office, and I shut the door. “I haven’t seen you this torn up since…” She didn’t have to finish her sentence.

“Felix had troubling news today,” I said. Shit, if that wasn’t the understatement of the year, I didn’t know what was. “Tate’s men are back in town.”

Carletta blanched. “What?” Her voice was thin and riddled with pain. “How can that be?”

I swallowed hard. “It’s Oaklee.” It was my turn to have pain in my voice.

Carletta groaned. “What? What does that mean?”

I told her what Felix had told me.

Carletta furrowed her brows. “That doesn’t sound right.”

I didn’t answer her. It didn’t matter how itsounded, it mattered what was true. I was furious that Oaklee had lied to me. I was heartbroken that she’d been the one to betray me—the only woman I’d allowed myself to be open to since Delaney.

“It’s not right, Jameson,” Carletta said. “I talked to her. Ifelther. She can’t be one of Tate’s.”

“She’s his daughter, Carletta. She’s as much Tate’s as she can get.”

Carletta held her breath momentarily. “No. I don’t—”

A knock on the door cut her short, and when it opened, Oaklee popped her head around the door.

“Am I interrupting?” she asked.

Her flaming hair hung loose over her shoulders, and she wore a simple black tank top and jeans. It was nothing special, but she was so incredibly beautiful, it made my heart ache. We were still bound to each other, despite the fact that she was a traitor, and my heart was attached to hers.

“Not at all,” I said tightly. “You’re right on time, in fact.”

Oaklee stepped into the room. Her eyes flitted from me to Carletta. The tension in the room was palpable, and my sister looked like she was on the verge of tears. It didn’t look like Oaklee hadn’t interrupted us, and she picked up on the vibes. That, and my emotions thanks to our bond, no doubt.

“I need to talk to you,” Oaklee said, looking at me. Her eyes were guarded, her manner careful.

“You missed the staff meeting.”

“I know,” she said. “Something came up.”

“Was it your dad?” I asked.

Oaklee stiffened. “Was what my dad?”
