“Okay.” Millie was grateful to Zara. She’d offered her a viable way out if things got too intense for her. “I’ll do my best.”

“Good. I love you. I wish I could talk more, but Daddy’s giving me ‘bedtime eyes’ and I don’t want to get in even more trouble.”

“It’s been good to talk.”

Later, when Millie was lying in bed, she knew she had two options. She could go to work with Chuck and do her best tomorrow, or she could take the very tasty, inebriating option that was lying in her bag.

The night was long.

CHAPTER FIVE

Itwasaquarterafter nine on Millie’s first day of work, and she was late.

Chuck had made it in on time, even though he was exhausted. He’d spent the night tossing and turning, playing through the conversation with his brothers about rules and punishments for Millie. It had blown his mind to discover that for some Littles, being in Little Space wasn’t really a sexual thing. Apparently, at some age play clubs, Littles got spanked for breaking rules by people who they weren’t even in a sexual relationship with.

“So, if I tell her that I’ll spank her when she does something wrong, she won’t think I’m a pervert?” he’d asked Duke.

“Nope. It’ll help keep her motivated. And frankly, if she does have a problem with it, it’ll give her the chance to bring it up with you.”

Trent had interjected. “Of course, having a Little’s consent goes without saying. Ideally, you’d talk through the rules and both sign something to make sure that she’s happy with all your ideas. There needs to be trust on both sides.”

This morning, as he sat waiting for Millie to show up — if indeed she was going to show up — he wished that he had taken notes last night.

“Getting her to sign a document is all well and good,” Chuck grumbled to himself as he piled straw into Sunrise’s stall, “but what am I meant to do if she’s already broken the rules before she starts?”

As the minutes ticked by, Chuck grew more and more frustrated. He was sure that Millie had been a conscientious worker when he’d worked for her father. Granted, she hadn’t been an official employee of the stables, but she’d had to help with all the chores, and she had plenty of training in her schedule for her dressage competitions. He couldn’t remember a single time that she’d been late, or had broken the rules.

He wondered what had changed.

By half past nine, Chuck considered going to complain to Takis. He figured it wouldn’t do any good though. But when the clock was almost at a quarter to ten, he decided he was going to have to do something.

He stood up, walked to the door, opened it…

And found Millie waiting on the other side.

She was looking sheepish, and she had a hand raised, as though she was about to knock on the door.

“Hello,” she said. “I overslept. Sorry.”

It would have been easier to be angry with her if she didn’t look so goddamn adorable.

For some reason, Millie was wearing a dressage rider’s outfit, including a tight-fitting, navy-blue jacket, and cream-colored jodhpurs, which hugged her lithe legs so tight that Chuck had to remind himself not to stare.

“At least you dressed for the occasion,” he teased.

She blushed a little. “I knew I shouldn’t have worn this.”

“Mill, don’t worry.” He shook his head. “Still can’t believe you’re here. How long has it been?”

“Eleven years?”

“Think it’s twelve.”

Millie shuffled from foot to foot. He’d forgotten how she used to do that when she was nervous. “It’s good to see you.”

Come on, Chuck. Keep it together.

“You too.”
