“It will all be fine. I promise. Sit tight.”

Will started with the lowest number and planned to work his way up. It was a bonus that the doors all had regular locks. Keycard locks would have been tricky to pick.

After double-checking the hall to make sure it was clear, it only took him a minute before he had the lock open and silently slipped through the door.

The girls he was looking for had been part of the group that took Kelly. He had interviewed them a year ago, but they hadn’t given him anything to go on. Now that the trail was cold, he’d take anything that could point him in the right direction.

“Whoa. I’m so sorry,” he said when he walked into the room.

Bed sheets flew everywhere while the two in bed covered themselves. It only took a second for Will to recognize this wasn’t one of the women he was looking for.

“I’m so sorry. Wrong room.”

He hurried out the door and moved on to the next. He’d have to hurry. It wouldn’t be long before he got himself in trouble he couldn’t recover from, and they’d have to leave.

When he entered the next room, a woman was in the bed, and the bathroom door was closed. She said nothing when he entered.

He didn’t recognize her either. “Sorry, wrong room,” he whispered.

Next was the door across from 315. He unlocked it and found the woman sitting on the bed wearing a robe. The man had just pulled his clothes on.

“Marie,” Will said. “What a surprise.”

“Hey,” the man said. “How’d you get in here? Get out.”

Will looked at his watch. “Sorry, man. Times up.”

“No, it’s not. I still have fifteen minutes.”

“What are you going to do in fifteen minutes? You’re finished. I’m next.”

The man tucked his shirt in, then stepped up to Will. He was a couple inches taller, and, looking into his eyes, Will could see he was jacked up on something, ready for a fight.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” the guy said. “But I will. Now do as I say, and get out.”

“Hey, guys. Not in here,” Marie said. She had slipped out of bed and moved toward the door. Will knew she’d try to make a run for it.

He shifted around to block the door. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“Neither am I.”

The man took a swing, but Will had anticipated it. After the punch missed its mark, Will used the guy’s momentum to send him crashing into the wall head first. He was stunned, but it didn’t stop him. He shook it off and barreled toward Will, catching him in the middle. Will swung him around, and Marie used the opportunity to make a break for the door.

“Marie, wait!”

Will got a punch in the face for his distraction.

He didn’t have time for this fight. He was about to lose his only chance for answers, so he shoved the man backward and punched him in the side of the head. That dropped him.

He took off for the door but skidded to a halt when he saw Charlotte lying on top of a squirming Marie.

“Charlotte?” He ran to help, hauling Marie to her feet and taking her to their room where he could safely question her.

“Sit,” he ordered. “I’m not here to hurt you. I just want some answers.”

She wouldn’t look at him. “I don’t have any.”
