"Cut the crap, Cyrus. I don't know how you tracked us down, but your intrusion is not welcome."

"Oh, was this little trip to Mexico supposed to be a secret?" Cyrus asked. "I'm sure I saw some speculation about it with a picture of you two."

Lysander said a very ugly word. Rowan didn't chastise him. She was feeling the same way.

Until the threats to him were dealt with, Lysander was at risk. She hated knowing someone had revealed their whereabouts. Could it have been Ariston Spiridakou? But why would he?

Lysander did not bother replying to Cyrus, but ushered Rowan into one of the shops on a side street near the cathedral. His security team prevented Cyrus from following them or speaking to them.

Unless he wanted to shout and that was below her ex-husband's self-perceived dignity.

Rowan didn't want to let Cyrus showing up spoil the day, but tension made her shoulders tight as she and Lysander perused the shops. He even helped her find tchotchkes to give her coworkers back in Athens. Which she found endearing.

However, she didn't relax again until she and Lysander were strolling along the sea walk, marveling at the view of the harbor and her annoying ex was nowhere in sight.

"There is someplace I would like to go, if you're up for one more stop?" Lysander asked. "I know Cyrus showing up put a pall on the day."

Rowan shook her head vehemently. "No. It has been an amazing day and I've really enjoyed how you've indulged my inner tourist."

"Then you don't mind one last stop?"

"Not at all." Since Rowan hadn't had anything else on her itinerary, she had no idea where Lysander wanted to take her. "What did you want to see?"

"It's a surprise."

The surprise turned out to be a jewelry store with a team of jewelers on hand who either worked on new pieces or made adjustments to jewelry bought on site. They did all of this at their workbenches in full view of the store.

Rowan was fascinated.

"Here, try this on," Lysander said from beside her.

A large pendant with a gorgeous teardrop shaped Mexican fire opal and a cluster of diamonds at the top dangled from a gold chain in his hand.

He'd been over on the other side of the store, and she'd assumed he was checking his phone again. Apparently, he'd been perusing the jewelry cases.

"It's beautiful," Rowan breathed.

"An opal that size is very rare, but especially a fire opal," the jeweler who she'd been watching fashion a one of a kind ring said.

"It reminds me of your hair," Lysander said as he fixed the chain around her neck.

The shimmery red stone with streaks of opalescence settled just above her cleavage.

Brandishing a mirror, the salesclerk said, "Ah, it is almost as lovely as the woman wearing it."

Rowan looked at her image in the mirror and something tugged at her heart. Not because of the necklace, but because of the expression on Lysander's face beside hers.

There was more fire in his eyes than in the opal.

"It suits you,yineka mou."

For some reason, Rowan's throat was too tight to make speech so she nodded. She loved it.

"There it is finished." The jeweler held up the ring he'd been working on. "You must try it on."

The ring was a delicate brushed gold band that came together in two hearts entwined around a much smaller fire opal than the one in her pendant.

Rowan was going to refuse when Lysander took the ring. Grabbing her hand, he lifted it so he could slide the golden circle onto her left ring finger.
