Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath. Knowing I was wasted, but remembering how bad my previous actions were with the girls at the club, I couldn’t cause more problems. Amber and I still had to be friends, and I knew somehow this would put a nail in my coffin, both privately and publicly. She tucked her palm into my pants, grabbing my shaft. Gripping the pressure points on her wrist, I pried her hand away, shoving her arm into her body.

“Not done enough to make a mistake with you.” I fastened my jeans, backing away. “You need to go, Simone.”

“Go where?”

“Away?” I picked the liquor bottle up, setting it on the coffee table. “Just away from here, I mean.”

“Why?” she taunted me, prowling closer. “Are you scared you’ll fuck me?”

Shaking my head, I dug my phone out of my pocket. “No, I’m scared I’ll kill you.”

“Ugh!” She marched toward the foyer before whirling around to face me. “Are you for real?”

“I’m serious, Simone.” I scoffed. “Leave.”

“I’m going but sober up and get help. No wonder Tobyn and Jay are trying to replace you for the sequel.”

“Wait!” I took long, quick strides to her. “What do you mean?”

Opening the front door, she stepped onto the porch before spinning around. “I overheard Tobyn telling someone on the phone he and Jay wanted to replace you since you’ve become a nightmare and liability on set.”

Without another word, she pranced to her white Corvette, never glancing back. Running my palm across my mouth, I watched in shock. There was no way she was serious. I was a star! There was no way Tobyn would ever replace me.

Fury seethed through my pores as I marched inside, slamming the door behind me. Yanking my phone out of my pocket, I scrolled through my contacts, furiously calling Tobyn. After several rings, he answered in a cheerful tone.

Mr. Hardwin, what do I owe the pleasure?

Cut the Mr. Hardwin shit!I stomped to the liquor cabinet, pulling out another bottle of vodka. What’s this I hear about you trying to replace me? You can’t do that! Do you know who the fuck I am?!I took three sizable swigs from the bottle.

Whoa, Chance, calm down. What are you talking about?

I just had a visitor who told me that you were trying to get me replaced for the sequel. You mother fucking piece of—

Chance, stop. I never said such a thing. I don’t give a fuck what you said on tv. For me, any press is good press. I’m just one of the writers and director. You act out, people still flock to the theater to see you.

I listened to his words, unable to respond.

They either still support you or want to see the train wreck they think you’ve become. Either way, we both win and get money. People are too nosy to ignore this. You probably just made yourself more famous if that’s even possible. You’re not the first loose cannon actor I’ve worked with, and you won’t be the last. Whoever told you that must have their facts mixed up. Are you there? He sighed.

Yeah, I need to go.

Not giving him another chance to respond, I hung up. I turned on an EDM playlist and pulled my shirt over my head, tossing it across the room. Falling lazily on the couch, I lit a cigarette, taking turns deeply inhaling drags and drinking. Soon, I became mesmerized by the rotation of the ceiling fan, and my world became dark.

* * *

Get up!

Get the fuck up! Where’s the volume on this thing? Oh. Here it is.

Chance, get up!

“Hmm.” Stirring, I cracked my eyes open. Gasping, I shot up, realizing I was hearing Ian’s voice in my sleep.

Abruptly, I was hit in the face by a white shirt. Squinting around, puzzled, I saw it had gotten dark outside. I clutched my head, trying to push the aching out of my skull. Ian was roaming around the room, picking things up off the floor and tidying my home. I was still processing his sudden appearance in my house. “What are you doing here?” I couldn’t show much emotion. Each change in movement or tone pierced my entire head. “How’d you get in?”

Briefly, he exited the room then returned with a glass of water. He set it on the table in front of me before taking a seat on the other end of the couch. “I came to bring you home, and Jenna.”

“Huh?” I shifted a bit, trying to sit up.
