“Lem on?” Struggling to understand her, I shook my head. “We’ll be at the hospital soon.”

“Amber,” Chance glanced back in the rearview mirror, “how’s she doing back there?”

Averting my gaze, I checked her pulse, though it was hard to find. She was fading fast. Nico crossed his arms over his shirt, yanking it off and throwing it back at me.

“Rip this and use it wherever needed,” he ordered as he placed his phone next to his ear, listening.

I was about to tear it when I felt Roxy shifting. I tossed it to the side. Opening her mouth to speak once again, she was struggling. She mustered the strength to stretch her arm up, pointing to her eye. Nico was on the phone, speaking rapidly in another language.

“Emon…le-mon.” She moaned in pain.

“Lemon?” I shook my head. “I don’t know what y—” I froze. “Lemon! Nico, are you talking to Ian?”

“What’s going on, babe?” Chance chimed in as he sped through a few more lights.

Ignoring him, I reached forward. “I need to speak to him, please!” I was desperate.

Ian!

Amber, I’m busy getting this shit taken—

Ian, listen! Please! Roxy just said ‘lemon’ and—

Amber, I don’t have time for games. Please get to the point.

I will if you shut up. I gasped.Oh God, I’m sorry, I just—

You’re wasting time. Talk!

Okay, okay, remember when Roxy got hit by the customer?

Yes, he groaned.

She originally told us she got lemon juice in her eye. Whoever did this is the same guy who hit her.

I thought Jade handled it?

Ian, if Alejand—

Amber, I’ll handle it. I have to go. Jake is here. Tell Nico I’ll call him back when I’m done here.

Okay.

Giving the phone back to Nico, I relayed the message before leaning back. Roxy was trying her best to give me a thumbs up. Minutes later, Chance pulled into the emergency parking lot, slamming on brakes. I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt in the haste to care for her. I threw my arms up, bracing myself as best as I could, however my face still slammed against the back of the seat.

“When we get inside, let me do the talking.” Nico bounced out the passenger side, heaving open the back door. “Amber, close the doors. Chance, go park and meet us inside and pull your hood up. Your hair is glowing!”

Damn Chance and his signature look. He stood out like a sore thumb and right now wasn't the time he needed to be recognized. Nico and I hurried inside while Chance followed instructions. The receptionist and police officer at the desk stood. As the receptionist buzzed the doors, letting us back, the officer met us around the corner.

“What happened?!” He bit, as a few staff members sped our way with a gurney.

“My girlfriend and friend were out, and my girlfriend was attacked by some unidentified men.” Nico sobbed violently. “Please save her, oh God, please!”

“We’ll send someone to you in a moment.” One of the men in scrubs informed an inconsolable Nico.

The police officer asked a few questions, and I leaned against the wall, clutching my stomach, tearing up as I watched her being taken away. I paid no attention to what Nico was saying. My heart was breaking for Roxy. She was so innocent and didn’t deserve any of what happened.

The officer walked away, and Nico spun to me. Wiping away his tears, he offered a stoic expression, gesturing to the waiting room door. Once we stepped through the threshold, Chance stood from a chair in the corner.
