He smiled back at me, and his eyes had a little gloss to them as if he had already had a few shots. He tossed the liquor back with ease. His lips looked soft and were still wet with Fireball when he handed the glass back to me.

Jaxon looked me up and down with a cocky grin. “You clean up nice, Mace.”

Chapter12

Jaxon

October 2015

I shouldn’t have takenthose three shots of Jack with the guys across the hall from our apartment.

Maci looked incredible. She wore a black low cut long-sleeve crop top and white skinny jeans. Her hair was curled, and the makeup around her eyes made them even bluer than usual. My eyes trailed down her toned stomach and the cute trail of freckles around her belly button.

I could have that top off in two seconds.

“You clean up nice yourself.” She beamed. She was happy to see me, and I could tell she was feeling good.

“Jaxon’s here!” I heard Katie yell from behind the counter. Everyone in the apartment cheered, and introductions were no longer needed.

Maci led me to the dining room table and greeted me with a solo cup. I took a sip, unprepared for the bite that came with the fruity drink. “Holy shit.”

“Katie’s Blood Orange Sangria with a splash of vodka,” Maci said and picked up a pong ball. “Play with me.”

I took the ball from her hand and looked away before it was obvious that I was staring at her. This was a version of Maci I hadn’t seen before, and so far, I was a fan.

Our first game was short. We won the round with only six turns because we kept getting the balls back. Every time Maci made a cup, she cheered and threw her arms around my neck. With every celebration, I got another whiff of her perfume. She smelled amazing.

I needed to figure out what I was doing before we left to go out. If I stuck with Maci and her friends, I would have to take a shot at sleeping with her tonight. If I wasn’t, I could break away in one of the bars.

I finished the rest of my drink and checked my phone. I had five text messages. One was from Bryson, one was from Heather, and the rest were from some random broads.

Katie approached where we were standing and showed us a Snapchat. “Tyler is at 149.”

“We can go there first, then,” Maci said and gathered up the cups. “Last call, everyone! We are leaving in fifteen!”

“Who is Tyler?” I asked and watched the replay of the video.

“He’s my hookup guy. My Fun Dip.” Katie looked at Maci, and they both giggled.

I laughed at their reactions. “What the hell is a Fun Dip?”

Katie smacked Maci on the shoulder. “I’ll let your pal Maci tell you what a Fun Dip is. Maybe you’ll be interested.”

Katie immediately took off into the living room, and Maci's mouth hung open. Leave it to Maci to compare it to a gross kid's candy, but it wasn’t that hard to guess what she meant. She was looking for a hookup.

Maci sighed and gathered up her hair, only to let it fall again. Her eyes met mine, and neither of us had to say anything else. My mind was made up. For the rest of the night, I wasn’t going anywhere.

Chapter13

Maci

October 2015

I was relievedwhen Jaxon didn’t push more into the conversation after Katie threw my Fun Dip idea out there. I knew her intentions were good, and she was trying to be the helpful shove I needed, but I still wasn’t sure about sleeping with Jaxon.

We started our evening at 149, and we lost Katie to Tyler as soon as they approached one another. They still followed our party to the other bars but lived in their own bubble the entire time.

Next was Nate and Wally’s for fishbowl races. They served up drinks in giant plastic fish bowl cups that reminded me of Kool-Aid. We were greeted by Fetty Wap’s “679” and Katie and I burst into the lyrics along with the rest of the bar.
