She hesitated a bit but responded, “…An eye for an eye.”

I grunted but released her chin, letting her resume her position on my chest.

“Thank you for telling me,” I said, my hand trying to tame her wild curls.

“What are you going to do?”

“Take care of it.”

I walked into the meeting room, Silas and Liam at my side. We refused to tell Eli about what transpired. Now was not the time for me to be checking on my brother’s temper when I had to keep a cap on my own.

I sat at the table, my chair scraping against the floor as Alexsei stared at me before lowering his gaze once I returned my own.

He was no match for me. Just a silly, impulsive boy that got lucky his father died to give him the power he had now.

When we were seated, Jericho addressed the room.

Along with us were the Dagons and the Quinns. Their families were all strong dynasties.

The Dagons were led by Anthony Dagon. He was an ugly motherfucker, granted his house was set on fire which melted half his face but it built the foundation that his family now sat on. The bodies he laid after his children and wife were killed in the fire were commendable.

While the Quinns were posh but effective led by Leon Quinn. He wasn’t known for his brutality like the lot of us were but he was smart and methodical. Something that was always needed no matter how strong you were.

This was the table Michael wanted a seat at but his family were ants compared to the people who sat here now. He never stood a chance against the Banrovs alone.

“Alexsei, the families ask that you pay restitution for your distasteful...transgression at the ball. You murdered one of the members of the Galdur Family. You marred the name of my event. It cannot stand, nor will it stand. The ball is never a place for violence or settling scores. Even your fucking father knew that,” Jericho said causing the other men to nod their heads as I drummed my fingers on the table to loosen the tense muscles in my face.

“And who will pay for my father’s murder? He married the woman that killed him in cold blood,” Alexsei said, pointing his finger at me.

Jericho shook his head, “You have to respect the sanctity of marriage. Mia Galdur is not to be touched by you or anyone in your organization. Is that understood?”

Alexsei slammed his hand on the table, disrupting the rhythm I was steadily building.

“This is bullshit. All of you are full of bullshit…It’s an eye for an eye. Isn’t that the motto Dagon said to this fucking council when his family was murdered?”

“Watch your tone, boy,” Dagon spat at Alexsei while Quinn slyly smirked at the show.

I had heard enough. I had seen enough. Standing from my seat, before the council could fathom what was happening, I walked behind Alexsei and held the knife that I always kept attached to my ankle to his face.

With one swift flick of my wrist, I sliced from his eyebrow to his cheek. Alexsei screamed as the blood spouted from the slash, but I didn’t let go of his face, even as the blood stained my hand and the cuff of my suit.

“This is a reminder for whenever you look at your worthless self in the mirror to never threaten or put your filthy hands on my fucking wife again,” I said through my gritted teeth at a still squealing Alexsei before I pushed his head away from me, his hands rushing to stop the bleeding.

Taking a handkerchief from my suit’s pocket, I began to wipe the knife free of his blood.

I looked at Jericho who looked on stunned like the men and their advisors in the room; flabbergasted by my blatant disrespect to the council and its stupid fucking rules.

In any other situation, I had no problem obliging to the council but this was not that. This was my wife and nothing mattered when her safety was jeopardized.

“Mia Galdur is off-limits to everyone.”

Because she was mine. My woman. My property. My life.

And with that I dropped the handkerchief on the table next to a bloody, hyperventilating Alexsei and walked out of the room.
