“Anna? Are you down there?”

Time to go.

“Listen, I’ll be back another night and we can… talk more. Do you need anything before I go?” I ask.

I look around realizing how little he has down here. Has he even been fed since coming here? He was in a cage, who knows what state he was in? He doesn’t deserve this.

“Do you need blood?” I whisper, hoping Aksel won’t hear me.

I wouldn’t let him drink from the vein. I’m not ready for that after everything, but I can’t let him starve either.

His eyes widen. “Anna, don’t offer your blood out like that! You will-”

“Anna!” Aksel’s voice is harsher from the top of the stairs.

“I have to go,” I say

“Go. I’m fine, don’t worry.”

I run up the stairs and come face to face with Aksel’s stormy gaze.

“What the fuck were you thinking going down there alone? Are you an idiot? Do you want to be killed? He’s the enemy Anna!”

My back locks up.

“Get out of my face! I can see him if I want to. You. Do. Not. Control. Me. Get that through your thick skull!” I shout.

Felix rounds the corner, skidding to a stop next to us.

“What is going on here?” He asks.

“Ask your mate!” Aksel spits.

Felix steps between us, pushing Aksel back a step. “Cool off and get the fuck back from her. I don’t care how mad you are, you don’t talk to her like that.”

His voice is firm and him protecting me is sexy as hell.

Aksel grinds his teeth, hard, before turning away and leaving.

Felix turns to me, wrapping his arms around me and pressing a kiss to my forehead. “What happened?”

“I went to talk to Ryan, who wants to be called Rion by the way.”

He leans back to search my eyes. “Don’t try to distract me with his name preferences when you drop a bomb like that. You went to see him alone?”

“Yes. Which is my right. I don’t have to check with you guys before talking to someone,” I say defensively.

He runs his hands up and down my arms soothingly. “I didn’t say you had to. I only wish you had told me so I could listen for any problems. I would have given you privacy, Kitten.”

Oh. “I didn’t trust you wouldn’t stop me,” I admit quietly.

His eyes soften even further, but I continue before he can say anything, “I haven’t forgiven the four of you for leaving me behind when you went after Ry-Killian. I would have been an asset but you dismissed my strength. In the moment, I felt like an idiot for trusting you all and now here I am again thinking about doing it again!”

“I’m sorry Anna, you’re right. I let Aksel run the show because it’s what I’m used to but I should have stood by you. You’re my mate and that’s what matters.”

This is the second time tonight someone has told me how important I am to them.

“I won’t let you be left behind again, I swear it. I know Blaze and Griffyn regret it too so we will have them on our side.”
