Anna

Felix lifts me into his arms and carries me inside despite my protests.

His tense muscles and gritted teeth stop me from pushing the issue.

I went outside to check on Griffyn when I was sure the house was clear. The impacts to my body were so sudden they sent me flying backward and searing pain enveloped me before I passed out.

I can’t believe someone shot me.

“Who could have done this?” I ask.

Felix sets me on the couch and curls up next to me. Blaze takes the other side when it’s clear Griffyn is staying in his spot by the door.

Good. I don’t want him near me right now.

“It could be Killian,” Blaze says.

Aksel looks thoughtful but doesn’t comment.

“No. I found a red envelope that was dropped back by the tree line when I went after the shooter. Along with a pair of tire tracks that I lost when they met up with the road,” Felix says.

Fuck. “A red envelope, like?”

“Like your stalker, yes.”

Curses and growls sound out around the room. Felix pulls me tighter to his body, nuzzling his mark on my neck.

“The stalker is elevating,” Aksel says.

“How did you guys know what happened?” I ask.

“The cameras. I got a notification of movement and we saw what happened.” Aksel crosses his arms behind his back.

“Was there anything else on the cameras that would be useful?” Felix asks.

“I’ll have to check them. Anna, you need to be careful at all times now that we have an unknown threat against us,” Aksel says.

He pulls out his phone and starts looking through the tapes.

“Anna-” Griffyn’s voice brings my anger right back to the surface.

“You knew we were mates, right? That’s why you were begging me to let you explain.”

“Yes,” he admits.

“How long have you known? How do incubi sense their mates?”

“Anna-”

“Just fucking tell me!” I shout.

He flinches back, his eyes still wide with guilt. Head ducked.

“Incubi can sense arousal around them.”

I nod, already having known this.
