I give her a smile as we get stuck in a queue of traffic at the first set of lights we hit.

“Welcome to hell.”

She gives me a wry smile in return. “It’s hardly the Dark Lord’s realm.”

Right, because she’s had a glimpse of that, and this is probably nowhere near as hot.

“We might be stuck in traffic for a while,” I tell her, not worried about the time.

I factored in some waiting around when I planned out our night.

Of course, I didn’t plan on stopping the car for close to an hour to get my mate pregnant, but we made a much shorter stop for dinner to make up for that already.

Amanda took a few minutes in the ladies room at the diner and came out with a light sheen of gloss on her lips, and a fresh coating of the vanilla perfume she used to wear a lot to hide her scent.

That’s not something she uses much now, but when we go out in public it can be a smart move to deter interest from other shifters who might be attracted to her natural musk.

The denim dress is cute. It clings in the right places and suits her girl-next-door style.

She was stunning even when she was walking around in baggy clothes, but I definitely prefer the way the clothes that fit her properly highlight the curves of her body.

There’s no way I’m letting her out of my sight at the concert.

I don’t give a shit if it makes me look like a stalker to a bunch of strangers.

I’ll be following her around to make sure no one dares to bother her.

We get to the parking garage around eight thirty, as planned.

I find a good spot for Sean’s classic car, and I cross my fingers that it doesn’t get dinged as we leave.

“This is so exciting,” Amanda tells me, the tickets in her hand with her phone.

She only has her backpack with her, and she left it in the car since it was too bulky to bring.

“I can keep that stuff in my pocket,” I tell her, holding my hand out.

“Okay,” she says, “but I should let Sean know we got here safe, first.”

“Sure,” I murmur.

She’s checked in with him a couple times now, and she hasn’t mentioned what happened on the way out here. She thinks we should tell him and Dante in person, even if that means waiting until tomorrow. I know they’ll have felt it. I don’t know if they know exactly how it went.

I get the feeling we’ll be telling them as soon as we get home, whatever time that ends up being.

She sends the text to Sean and holds onto her phone until she gets his response.

“Thumbs up?” I ask, wondering if he texts her the same way he texts me.

“Pretty much,” she says, as she passes her phone to me with the tickets.

I put it in my empty pocket, then I take her hand and we get walking.

Chapter twenty-three

Amanda

IcanhardlybelieveI’m in an actual city. Everything’s so big, and loud. I can’t stop looking around. I’m probably making myself look like a tourist, but I can’t help it. This place is so different to what I’m used to. The buildings are crazy tall. The people are loud. There’s traffic noise even on streets where there are no cars. It’s like a completely different world.
