She looks at Dante and back at me. She’s still waiting for an answer to her question, I guess.

“What do you remember, Amanda?” Dante asks, sitting beside her but not too close.

She frowns. “I was with Jake, at his house. Where am I?”

Rachel moves to my side, and I can’t help thinking it might have been smart to bring Jillian, someone she actually knew in Fallen Pines. If she doesn’t remember Wolf Creek at all, and honestly, I can’t even imagine what that would be like, then all three of us are strangers to her.

“You’re safe,” Rachel tells her. “You’re with friends. I’d like to try something, if that’s okay? It should help make everything make sense.”

“Who are you people?” Amanda asks, getting to her feet and crossing her arms. “I don’t know any of you, and I don’t know what I’m doing here. Somebody better start talking, or I swear … I swear …”

She trails off, shaking her head. Then she pushes past me and goes for the door.

“Truth,” Rachel says, activating a spell meant for Amanda.

Amanda stops in her tracks and turns around. “Did you just cast a spell on me?”

She sounds like she can’t believe it, and she’s looking at us as if we’re psychopaths.

I might be, technically, on some scale, but I’m her psychopath.

She has the part of my heart that beats. She owns it like no one else could.

“I’m yours, Amanda. I’m your true mate,” I tell her, ready to prove it in a way only a mate can.

She stares back at me, not saying a thing. She looks stunned.

A flush of color slowly creeps up her neck and reddens her cheeks.

“If he’s not, then tell him,” Rachel says softly, making me growl.

Dante touches my hand, calming me down.

Amanda looks at us. “I don’t know what’s going on, but he’s not …”

She trails off and growls in frustration.

Rachel smiles. “You can’t tell him because it’s not true, Amanda. Think about that. Please.”

“Jake is my …” she starts, eyes widening when she can’t say it.

Rachel shakes her head. “Jake’s been manipulating you, Amanda. Making you think what he wants you to think. He rejected you the night you were revealed as his mate. He didn’t regret that until much later.”

She blinks at her friend. “Jake isn’t my mate?”

“You have three amazing mates here in Wolf Creek,” Rachel goes on. “They love you for who you are. You don’t have to hide your witch side here.”

“No,” Amanda says, turning away from us. “This is all … It’s too much.”

She opens the door and walks right into Sean.

“Amanda! You’re awake,” he sounds so damn pleased.

He’s not going to feel so good in another second.

She pulls away, looks up at him and gasps. “You’re the one who told me it was a dream.”

“I am, and it was. Listen to your instincts, Amanda. They’ll guide you when you don’t know anything else.” His soft-spoken words and gentle energy seem to transfer to her.
