“It’s fucking convenient that three people were involved and I’m the only one who takes the blame. I forgot that I had some sort of magic power that forced people to do as I said. This is bullshit. I’m done.”

He spun on his heel, storming off. Neither Bennett nor Grayson seemed inclined to follow him, but I didn’t want Luka to leave. I popped to my feet and scurried after him, following him out the door.

“Luka!”

He froze halfway down the hallway, his hands clenched tightly at his sides. I hated seeing him so upset. And he had a point. I could’ve said no. I didn’t want to.

Since he didn’t turn around, I had to step around him to look at his face. His cheeks were flushed and a muscle in his jaw twitched as he tried to keep his anger at bay. I grimaced, shaking my head.

“You’re right.”

It obviously wasn’t something he was expecting because his fury disappeared in a flash and he looked stunned.

“I– What?”

I nodded, bouncing on my toes. I had been in too much of a rush to put my shoes on, and the long marble tiled hallway was chilly, but I ignored it.

“You’re right. I had every opportunity to say no. I don’t think either of us ever expected Grayson to figure it out, and I don’t blame you for us getting caught. But…”

I bit my lip. I didn’t want to let him off the hook completely, but he was already so upset, I didn’t want to rile him up again, either. I chewed on my lip, frowning at the floor, until he cupped my face in my hands.

“But I started it. I know. I’m sorry about that. The first half was my fault. I said I’d watch out and I should’ve kept my word. I…” He sighed, looking away. “I’m… not really boyfriend material. I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now. I–”

Putting my hand over his mouth, I shushed him. “Don’t say that. You’re a good boyfriend. You make me laugh and push me to see the good in myself. I don’t think Alan ever honestly made my laugh like you can. He said he was too serious to make jokes.”

Luka made a face. “What the fuck does that mean? Even Grayson knows how to joke around, and he runs the whole damn company.”

When I first met him, I probably would’ve disagreed. Grayson was kind, but I couldn’t see him joking around. But after getting to spend time with them on game night, and seeing Grayson’s teasing grin, I felt like there was more there than I’d been seeing so far. Grayson seemed like the type of person who kept his feelings close to the vest, though. He only shared them with the people he trusted the most. As just his secretary, I wasn’t included in that. As his girlfriend… I was excited to get to know him better.

His mood seemed to settle a little and when I stepped closer, he wrapped himself around me automatically. It made me smile, how easy things were with him. I didn’t second guess myself as often around him. He was easy to read for the most part, and it made me feel better. And I think the embrace made him feel better, too. He rested his chin on my head, letting out a heavy sigh.

“I’m sorry, Julie. I shouldn’t have let it go that far, especially after you said you were scared. That was my fault. It won’t happen again.”

Pursing my lips, I considered it. “Well… Maybe just not at work.”

When he shifted backwards so he could see me better, his eyebrows lifted. I fought off a grin.

“I mean… It was fun in the moment. I wouldn’t mind being part of the pranks if I was informed beforehand. And not at work. I love my job, Luka. I don’t want to lose it.”

The corner of his mouth lifted, and a mischievous look overtook his face. “You liked it, huh?”

I felt my face flush, and I lifted a shoulder. “Some of it.”

He hummed, pulled me closer until there wasn’t an inch between us. Which meant I was very aware of his erection pressed against me. Dipping his head, he stopped just a hair’s breadth away from my lips.

“Tell me what parts you liked.” It was barely a whisper, but I swore I could feel his words along my spine, making me shiver. My reaction only seemed to excite him more, and his grin grew.

“I liked… I liked the secret, the fact that no one knew what I was doing. It was thrilling. And…” I wasn’t sure I wanted to admit the second part out loud, but Luka spun us, trapping me up against the wall, and my whole body lit up in response. I arched, pushing myself up against him, letting out a breathy moan when he ground his erection against me.

“And what, beautiful?”

Biting my lip, I shook my head. I should’ve known he’d take it as a challenge, though. He leaned over and started licking and nipping my neck. He knew that drove me crazy, and I trembled against him.

“Tell me and I’ll make sure to do it again.”

My face flushed a darker red. “I liked how powerful I felt, having Bennett at my mercy like that.” It was barely a whisper, but Luka’s groan said he heard me just fine. He captured my lips, his kiss urgent and almost desperate. I completely forgot that we were standing in the middle of the hallway. I could only feel his hands leaving a trail of fire as he touched me everywhere.

“Food’s done.”
