Heat fills my cheeks. I glance at him. "Are ya the drink police now?"

He shakes his head. "No, but the last thing I want is for ya to get sick on this plane when you've not flown before."

It's a good point. I glance at Chloe. "Why don't ya just make it a tea?"

"You'll be fine with one," Tynan states.

"Just tea, please."

"Very well, and you, sir?"

"Coffee," he states.

Chloe walks away, and I ask, "How can ya drink that stuff? It's like mud."

"No, it's not. And I'll take ya to some really good coffee places when we're in New York."

"But I don't drink coffee."

"Well, it's a good time to start." He winks at me.

I roll my eyes and sit back in my seat, buckling my seat belt. I look out the window, glancing at Belfast, surprised that I'm finally leaving Ireland on a trip.

"Say goodbye. We'll be gone for a while," Tynan declares.

Panic hits me. I turn toward him. "What do ya mean a while? How long are we going for?"

He shrugs. "Until we're ready to come back."

"Well, when will that be?"

"I don't know. I'll let ya know when I know."

My anxiety increases. I blurt out, "But I can't be away a long time from Da. He might get in trouble."

Tynan's face hardens. "Your da's a grown man. He can take care of himself. And that's no longer your job."

"He can't!" I admit.

Tynan's expression turns angry. "Like I said, your da's a grown man."

"But—"

He puts his hand over my mouth. "If it makes ya feel better, I'll make sure my guys watch him and bail him out of any messes he makes."

I sigh in relief, and he releases his hand. "Okay. Thank you."

He adds, "A deal's a deal, right?"

I nod, then lean over and peck him on the lips. "Thank you."

He doesn't say anything.

Chloe returns with our drinks.

I sip on my tea, and Tynan drinks his coffee.

Chloe says, "We should be off the ground in about fifteen minutes," then she retreats to the galley.
