Iper?

Oh my God.

Viper.

Someone’s trying to tell me, warn me.

V…

I…

K…

Vik–

My eyes snapped up as Viktor waltzed into the room.

The dots clicked into place; the code realized.

Viktor, Viper.

Fuck.

Of course, Viktor was the man they referred to as The Viper.

That’s exactly what he was, a snake.

I gritted my teeth angrily, trying to keep my new discovery under wraps. He didn’t know I knew, and if for some reason he hadn’t dragged me in here to end me, then he certainly would kill me as soon as he realized what I knew.

“Ah, Reynolds.” He sang and pulled up a rolling stool. “Comfortable? Can I get you anything?” He loved to toy with people when he brought them in for interrogation. I knew it was a mask over the real sinister capabilities he had.

“You can start by telling me why you’ve got me strapped to this table, you motherfucker.” I spat at him.

He grinned, completely amused, as he usually did. It was easy being on that side of the table. “You’ve become a real thorn in my side lately, you know that?”

He stood up and yanked on the straps that held my ankles, making sure they were tight. As he damn well should, because as soon as I got out of these restraints, I was going to shred that traitorous motherfucker into tiny pieces.

I scoffed, shaking my head, suddenly piecing together why he was always so hard on Emma. Because she was the only one who’d gotten even remotely close to tracking him down, she was the one always putting her nose in things she wasn’t supposed to. She was the one who threatened to expose him.

I blinked back up at the camera, and it continued to play the morse code. She’d probably hacked in and set it up on a recurring loop. I glanced away from the camera, not wanting to draw Viktor’s attention to it. God forbid he realized there was a message silently blaring across the room, outing his dirty little secret.

I realized the incriminating evidence must have been on that hard drive, and that’s likely why Viktor had dragged me in here, to see how much I knew already. It was all coming together lightning quick. Emma had likely pieced it together back at the house, and she knew where I was. She was sending me this message in an effort to try to help me. As glad as I was for the intel, I seriously hoped she was far, far away from me right now.

If Viktor had been working closely with Shah, he’d have realized the moment the incriminating hard drive had gone missing. That’s why Emma had been attacked at the gym, and then another team had been sent to collect me at the house. I shook my head. If I’d realized it was the agency sending these assassins one after another, I’d have left the company electronics, but instead I’d let them track me straight to the safe house.

My chest tightened thinking of Emma. I seriously hoped she’d escaped.

I glanced at Viktor, who I realized had been drawling on about God knows what. He now stood over the tray of metal instruments, fingering them with delight in his eyes.

He whirled around. “Don’t you think?”

I made eye contact with him, burning him to the ground with my eyes.

“Hmmm?” He asked again, and I had no idea what he was referring to.
