“Why?” Priest’s voice cuts the tension in the room like a knife.

“I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.” Tears start to flow again because I do not deserve this man or this club’s help.

“So what you’re saying is that you killed the President of MalaSangre MC to protect the woman who’s been a thorn in your side for weeks? You started a war for some random snatch?” Wolf is livid, and Spark turns to his president and best friend.

Spark pulls a chair out and sits down with me in his lap, making everyone gasp. Strange reaction to something so simple, and I look around, confused as hell.

“No, I saved the life of my old lady. If that started a war, I’ll gladly fight it. Alone if I have to.” No, he can’t, and besides, I would never let him do anything alone.

“You’ve never been alone, brother.” Wolf slaps his shoulder, and I turn my mouth to his ear.

“Together.” He kisses my temple in response.

“Old lady?” Wolf asks, and Spark chuckles, making me bounce a little.

“Aye, now are you gonna help me get our little girl back?” I gasped at his proclamation in front of his club.

I haven’t said a word this whole time, but I pull away to look him in the eyes. He’s dead serious and waiting for someone to argue the fact that Lucy is as much his as she is mine now. It isn’t until this moment when I see the unconditional love the this man has for my child, who he has never even laid eyes on, that I know I’m in love with him.

“Our?” Spark nods at Priest, and I start crying again.

“Mine.” He whispers into my ear.

CHAPTERELEVEN

SPARROW

I watchSpark cradle this woman in his arms like she’s the most important thing in his world and frown. The anger I felt when he burst into my clinic holding a quilt over his back like he was fucking Santa Claus evaporated after hearing what went down.

* * *

“ASPEN!”

I turn at the sound of my name being called so urgently and gasp. Issac is covered in blood, and Mrs. Travers’s cat hisses at the name. The elderly woman clutches her fucking pearls and covers her mouth.

“Oh, dear. Were you in an accident, love?” I frown at the owner of my patient and place her angry feline back in its carrier.

“Mrs. Travers, I apologize. Seems I have an emergency to handle. Please stop at the front desk to reschedule.” I look at my assistant and mouth to him.

CLOSE UP.

He nods and helps the town’s nosiest resident out of the room.

“What the fuck!” I move to Issac’s side and search him for wounds.

He’s beaten to hell and bleeding from a cut above his eyebrow, but otherwise seems fine.

“I need to turn this to ash. Quick.” I frown and look at the bundle.

I go over to a switch on my wall and flip it so the scale under the table activates. The scene lights up with a digital read of the weight of whatever is on the table.

“Two hundred pounds is going to take a few hours, Issac. What is it?” I cringe that I even asked.

“A coward that sold woman and children and tried to kill my old lady.” Fuck.

It’s hard to stay mad at the club when they’re ridding the world of this scum.

Well, it’s a simmer anyway.
