“Where is she?” Spark doesn’t answer, but Viper does.

“In the house. It’s better this way.” I nod and wipe my face.

“Take us home.”

We pile into the car and find a hotel room for the night. Viper gets us tacos, and we’re all eating and listening to Lucy talk about the events that happened tonight.

“Then daddy came and told us to hide and that you were coming to get me.” She stuffs her mouth so much that she looks like a gerbil.

“What? Baby, you saw your daddy?” She nods her head, and I look at her, stunned.

“I didn’t think you had met him.” She finishes chewing and smiles.

“Daddy visits a lot. She always came at night and snuck in my window like Peter Pan. I’m his little Tinkerbell, and you’re his Wendy mommy. He told me stories about you when you were kids like me.” She licks some guacamole off her fingers, and I look at Spark, too shocked to speak.

“Can you share the stories with us?” He asks her, and she giggles.

“You talk funny!” I smirk.

“Daddy said he never grew up, but Mommy had to, and that’s why we weren’t together. But now I’m a big girl and have to grow up like mommy, so you were coming to get me. That meant I shouldn’t be seeing him anymore.” Her face turns sad as she speaks.

“Oh baby,” I move her curls off her forehead and smile at her.

“It’s ok. Daddy said I’m special and that the man with orange hair fed Captain Hook to the mean old crocodile so I’d be safe. Now he’ll be my forever daddy.” I choke on the soda I was drinking, and Spark turns even whiter.

“That’s you, right Issac?” She reaches up and pulls on his beard.

Viper coughs to cover his laughter, and my eyes feel like they’re going to fall out of my head from how hard I’m staring at Spark.

Man up, puto!

“Can I be? It’s up to you, lass. I’d be the best daddy I can be.” She taps her little finger on her lip and scrunches up her forehead in thought.

“That a girl, make him sweat it out.” I throw my napkin at Viper.

“No more feeding people to crocodiles.” My four-year-old is bargaining with a biker about him not killing anymore.

What even is my life?

“Not even evil people?” I gasp.

“Issac,” I warn him, but Lucy shrugs.

“I guess they do need to eat. That’s why they have all those teeth.” She raises her arms to mimic the animal and makes chomping noises when she opens and closes them.

“Deal.” He holds out his hand, but she jumps into his lap and hugs his neck.

“It’s itchy!” She squeals, and Spark rubs his beard into her more.

I think my ovaries just exploded.

OH SHIT.

“Um, we forgot to stop at the pharmacy.” I remind him, and he stops tickling Lucy long enough to look up at me and wink.

“I’m ready to be surprised.”
