“I’m perfectly fine,” I whisper.

We don’t leave immediately. Instead, we all watch the building burn. Justin and Charley turn to face me as the fire slowly smolders. Their eyes focus on mine wordlessly, then Justin smirks. “You’re all good now,” he says. It’s not a question. It’s a statement.

I smile. “I’m all good now,” I exhale.

He dips his chin in a single nod. “Good. We’ll see you later, yeah?”

I almost ask them to stay but decide against it. I’m exhausted. I need to check on my friends, and I need to eat and drink about a gallon of water. Both men move toward me, embracing me separately before they silently turn and walk away.

Unable to look away, I watch them make their way toward their bikes, then climb on. The engines roar to life, then they’re gone. Lance holds me a bit closer, his lips brushing my temple before he speaks.

“Are you ready to go home?” he asks.

“Yes,” I say, turning my head to look back at him. “Take me home, Lance.”

AGONY

The clubhouse isn’t busy and roaring with happiness the way it usually is. It’s somber and almost filled with a blanketed cloud of melancholy as the men begin to make their way inside and head straight for the bar in silence.

Reese turns toward me, inhaling through her nose before letting it out slowly. She appears to be worried as fuck. Maybe it’s just the trauma of the past few days… hell, for her, the past few years.

My gaze searches hers. I don’t make a single move or sound, waiting for her to come to me with whatever questions she has, even though the only thing I want to do is take her to my room and remind not only her but myself as well that she’s here, safe, and with me.

“Are the girls okay?”

“They are all okay. The babies, too,” I murmur with a single nod. “The brothers, their men, took them home. We have church tomorrow to go over everything. Tonight, we rest.”

I lift my hands and cup her cheeks. “How about we get you something to eat and go to bed?” I offer.

Her lips curve up into a sexy grin. All I want to do is kiss them. I want to consume her right here and now, but I know if I start, I won’t stop, and I want to take my time with her.

Sliding my hands around to the back of her head, I grip her dark hair with my fingers, tugging on the strands before I lean forward and touch my mouth to hers in a hard, closed-mouth kiss. She inhales a sharp breath, her hands sliding between us as she grasps hold of my shirt, gripping it tightly with her fingers.

Taking a step back, I end the kiss, even though the only thing I want to do is take it so much fucking further right here and now. But then I remember the baby and food. “I want you to go to my room and find something to change into. We’re heading to get some food and to see a doctor.”

“A doctor?” she asks.

As much as I don’t want to, I know she needs to see one. “You need to be checked out,” I state.

“I don’t. Really. Nothing happened to me.”

Shaking my head, I flex my fingers against her cheek before I slide my hand down to loosely hold on to the side of her throat. “You haven’t had food and water. You were fucking locked in a closet, Reese. You need to be checked out.”

She opens her mouth, no doubt to argue, but I don’t give a fuck. I’m not here to argue. I’m here to take care of my woman.

Taking a step backward, I wrap my fingers around her wrist and turn toward the door. The entire bar is still fairly silent as I pull her behind me, moving through the room until we’re outside.

Frowning, I realize that all I have here is my bike. Volt is standing against a car, and he whistles before he tosses me the keys. “This one is spoken for, so don’t get sideways. But the buyer won’t be here to pick it up for a couple of days.”

“A ’70s Barracuda?” I ask. “When the fuck did we get this?”

Volt grins. “You been busy, brother. We’ve made sure to continue working. I got this one a couple of weeks ago. Old man died, and it was in a barn. Daughter wanted it gone. It didn’t need a ton of work, and I had a buyer who didn’t want to spend a fortune, but he was willing to spend enough.”

“Nice,” I hiss.

I jerk my chin toward the car, and he brushes past me as I move to open the passenger side for Reese. She is hesitant to slip inside but thankfully does without me having to force the issue. I will force it, too. She is my priority, and as much as I’d rather be balls deep inside of her right now, I also want to ensure that she and the baby are healthy.
