It’s also the key to destroy him.

Okay,Fallon says and my heart lifts. You want to help this spirit, then I will help you, too. But I have one condition, Issy, and it’s nonnegotiable.

What is it?I ask, ready to agree to almost anything.

You’re coming to Reykjavík.

I can’t,I protest.Amala is waiting for the heat to die down before giving me the last piece of the puzzle I need. She can help me prove my innocence.

Even if I defeat Daithi and the patriarchs, that’s not going to solve my immediate problem in the land of the living.

Not to mention, I need Amala to teach me how to properly heal a wound with death magic because it keeps reopening—not something I dare share with Fallon. And that would be pretty hard to hide in person.

Then she’s going to have to come here, or we’ll portal wherever she wants. The heat is not dying down; it’s getting worse. The Houses are all up in arms about the fallout in Lapland and the syndicates have made aggressive retaliatory strikes against a similar massacre in New York. Several officials are dead and even the dukes had an assassination attempt. Youcannotbe there when the Houses strike back.

I wince.I imagine that didn’t go very well for the assassin.

No,she agrees.Tallis burned him beyond recognition, so we can’t even confirm which syndicate is responsible. Which is why you need to come here. Kaspian has agreed to protect you.

And my mates?I ask. Things have changed now that I’m fully mate-bonded to them. I’m also encouraged that we know more about Jewel and her connection to the patriarchs. Kaspian is going to be more interested in a manifestation spirit than my hybrid vampires.

Or at least, I hope Fallon can keep him interested in Jewel.

They’ll be under the same protection, she says.

I need his vow,I demand. When Fallon sees my injury, I’m going to need a vow that can’t be broken.

Is my word not enough?she asks, clearly ruffled by my demand. You’ve changed, Issy.

Perhaps I have.

His vow,I repeat.

There’s a moment of silence, then Fallon finally answers. He vows to protect you and all three of your mates. Now will you come to Reykjavík? I’ll get Nolan.

That won’t be necessary,I say with a grin. I’m eager to test out my new ability with Kornelius. When I called him to me, it was a matter of channeling his power mixed with mine. But I decided where the tunnel he made went. It shouldn’t be hard to form a portal anywhere I’ve been to before, just like Ayla does. That ability is tied to her spirit and can’t be replicated, but I’m not replicating it. I’m doing something similar with Kor’s ability that he already has.

Now that I have Kaspian’s vow, going to my sister makes sense. Plus, I will need her for the next step in my plan.

The step that comes after killing Zane and Royce.

I’ll be there tonight. See you soon, sis.

Chapter37

Jasper

“Istill don’t like this plan,” I say as I watch Issy get dressed.

Despite Zyran’s attempts to convince our mate to indulge in our worship for at least a few more days, Issy seems determined to take action against her enemies.

I, for one, am eager to kill Zane. My brothers likely have more cause than I do to want him dead. But they’re even more distracted by Issy’s body than I am.

And that’s saying something.

She slips a gauzy dress over her head and wiggles into it. It forms to her body and shows off her hips and her gorgeous breasts. Taking a look in the mirror, she frowns at it.

“That’s because it’s a plan where you have to trust me,” she says, not looking away from herself. She murmurs a spell, making all of us flinch as she draws our magic into herself, and a blade appears in her hands.
