Arriving back at the rescue, he stared down at his phone while opening the door. What is going on? I have no idea what they’re talking… about. Then, it hit him.Liza must have posted something.

As he walked past the dog kennels, he heard, “Hey, how was your run?”

Liza was sitting in Randall’s kennel, legs crossed, with Randall snuggled in the middle.

“It was… good,” Miller said slowly, still in a daze.

“Do you think I could try taking Randall for a walk? I feel like he totally trusts me now. Oh, the high school boys arrived. They’re outside cleaning the play yards. They are so sweet. I just—”

Miller cut her off. “Did you… post something?”

“Oh yeah, I did. It’s just a cute video to spread the word about our Run Fur Fun 5k. Why?”

“Because… my mom and Captain Tate… and Kenny from the hardware store texted me wanting to know about you, my new girlfriend.”

Miller felt sick to his stomach. The experiment was a horrible idea. He wanted to get Abigail’s attention—not the whole world’s. Granted three people weren’t the whole world, but it felt like a lot of eyes on him… and it was only day one.

“What exactly did you say in the video?”

Liza motioned for Miller to sit next to her in Randall’s kennel. “I tagged you in the video so you should have a notification. Here, I’ll just show you. Ahh, it’s so cute. You’re gonna love it. Oh first, grab some cheese just to be safe.”

Miller walked to the fridge and then returned holding the peace offering. Randall took the treat from his hand and then laid his head back down in Liza’s lap.

With his back against the wall, Miller sat next to Liza and peered over at her phone.

He recognized the blank white rescue walls behind Liza in the video. “Heyyyy! Liza here, spilling some tea! I’ve kissed some very hot men in my lifetime and today I’m telling you who was the best. Actually, I think I’m gonna let you guys decide.” Then, the video proceeded to display a montage of Liza kissing—or more accurately—receiving kisses from Snowdrop, Ajax, Hunter, and lastly, Randall. The video ended with Liza saying, “Let me know in the comments who you think deserves the title of Best Kisser!”

So many questions were running through Miller’s mind. First of all he had to know, “You put your face that close to Randall? And he let you?”

Liza laughed. “I felt like we were ready to take our relationship to the next level. It’s hard to believe he was so closed off before. It’s amazing how far he’s come thanks to cheese.”

Miller shook his head. “Okay, but if you didn’t mention me in the video how come everyone is texting me.”

“Oh, I tagged you in the caption and posted it to your stories.” Liza scrolled so he could see it.

He read, “Don’t tell my boyfriend @MillertheUnderdog—he might get jealous! But, you should give him a follow and check out the link in our bios for more info about how you can help these sweet pups!”

Liza chimed, “So, I put the link to the virtual 5k sign up and our SupportACause page in your profile and mine.”

Miller’s head felt foggy.

“Hey, what’s wrong? You look pale.”

“I… I guess I didn’t really expect you to just… I don’t know—claim me as your boyfriend...” His stomach felt tight.

“I thought that was the plan. You’re my boyfriend for the week, which we showcase on social media so that Abigail can see.”

Right, Abigail. Doing this for Abigail.Miller took a deep breath to settle his jittery nerves.

Liza continued, “I know social media can feel a little overwhelming, but it’s gonna be worth it. And, it’s only temporary. Also, did you notice how many likes the video has?”

Miller looked to where Liza was pointing. “Five thousand nine hundred-thirty five likes… How is that possible? When did you post it?”

“Ah, I don’t know. Maybe twenty minutes ago? Oh, also your number of followers has increased." Liza spoke with sing-songy excitement.

She pointed to Miller’s profile. He had jumped from 54 followers to 1,604. There was also an array of new photos on his grid. “What… when?” he sputtered.

“Oh, I’ve been taking photos of the dogs all week, so I posted a few for you. I think giving them social media exposure will help them find families. Also, I changed your profile pic.” Miller squinted to see the small circle. It was the photo Liza shot of them when they were walking Ajax and Hunter—right before her concussion.
