“Well, maybe I am too.”

Kyro gently kisses my lips again. “No.” He repeats.

Kyro

She ignores me, walks outside, and sits in the car, waiting for me. I chuckle at her naïve idea about being prepared. “Fine, let me see how much you can take, zhena.”

In the past few days, I had forgotten about that snitch spying for theYakuza. Today I get to torture him a bit more before killing him and sending him in a gift box back to theYakuza.

When we arrive at the warehouse, I open Reyna’s door and take her hand as she exits the car. Her hand is trembling, but I rub her hand to ease her slightly.

The warehouse seems abandoned since it’s been made soundproof. As you open the door and walk inside, you can hear the curdling screams of that snitch. He struggles in the chair; his blood is dripping across his entire body. His mouth was still duct taped with the explosive inside.

“Did you have time to think of a name?” I ask the snitch.

He cries out once more before nodding. “Take the tape off his mouth,” I order.

One of my men removes the tape and the snitch spits out the explosive.

“Why are you torturing him?” Reyna asks me.

“He’s a snitch for theYakuza. Spying on us and feeding information to them. Where our safe houses were, our suppliers…” I pause and think, “Everyone, wait outside.” I order.

Reyna watches as the men leave. “Why did you…” She trails.

“Name, now,” I say once more.

He shutters, “H-H-Hiro Kizuna…he hired me to watch you. The Japanese Syndicate’s new leader is stationed in Korea and wields significant influence. He’s got men everywhere. I’m dead either way. Please, just kill me.”

I look over at Reyna. Then I reached for my gun and handed it to Reyna. She looks at me with wide eyes. “Kill him.” I order.

She shutters, “What? I’m not a killer.”

He sighs. “Then why are you here? I told you to stay home, and you insisted on coming. Now you must follow through. He is a threat to our family. As the mother of this family, you must cut him down. Personally, I want to torture him more, but this is a teachable moment. So, will you protect the family?”

Reyna

I have never held a gun in my hand before. It’s heavy.

“It’s okay if you can’t, but this will be the last time you ever come with me. There’s nothing wrong with not being able to.” He reassures.

This is my life now whether I like it or not. Kyro is the boss of a mob, and he has enemies, which means now I have enemies and so does my son. If something happens, I have to be prepared to protect myself or my son.

I take in a breath, my finger slides on the trigger and the cold steel feels like it’s going to fumble out my hand. I close my eyes and I hear a click; it’s empty.

“I didn’t think you would do it.” Kyro awes.

I glare, “So what? This was a test?”

“I would never put blood on your hands. It must be your choice and for a good reason. I just wanted to know if you would kill someone if I asked.”

I take in a breath. “Why?”

“You trusted my judgment. I wanted to make sure that we were a team.” His chilly hands hold my face. “Our marriage only involves you and me. You are my only partner, and I need to make sure you trust me.”

As my hand brushes over his hair, I murmur, “You and I…”

He takes the gun out of my hand and shoots at the man in the chair. I flinch at the sound. The man falls backward on the ground. A pool of his blood gathers.
