“Careful now, if you keep this up, I’m gonna be a hundred times cockier than I already am. Most of these English folk have already labeled me as ‘arrogant arse,’” he pronounced in an English accent. “I guess I have you to blame.”

I smiled when he did.

“How’s everything going on your end?” Noah sipped his drink.

“Pretty good. I’m just occupied with school, mostly.”

“And how are you liking the new job?”

“I enjoy working at the bookstore.”

“I really wish you’d devote your free time to your studies. I told you I’d take care of all your financial needs. You won’t even share a bank account with me.”

“I need to feel some independence, Noah. Please stop forgetting that.”

“Yeah, yeah… I haven’t forgotten,” he sighed. “This isn’t because of Trevor?”

“Please don’t bring him up. He’s my past. Anyway, it’s good for me. I’m learning the value of the hard-earned dollar.” I proudly smirked. “At least I’m not taking my clothes off for money—not judging, just grateful I don’t have to do something I don’t want to do. There’s this girl in my human rights class who strips part-time, and she gets paid big bucks.”

“Don’t even think about it.” Noah sounded serious.

“I would hate to piss off my temperamental boyfriend, even though he’s outrageously sexy when he’s mad at me.” I spammed our chat window with green hearts and kisses—green for the heart chakra. Lovesick Aria, at her mushiest.

“You’ve seen me pissed off.” Noah chuckled. “… actually, you’ve seen mereallypissed, but what I’m trying to say is that I don’t want you getting involved in the adult entertainment industry.”

“You don’t have to worry. I’ve already given up my modeling aspirations now that I have this ugly scar on my body.”

“Aria, we’ve been through this before. That scar doesn’t take away your beauty. You survived severe trauma. It should only be a reminder of what you’ve overcome.”

I exhaled deeply and said, “I know.”

Desiring intimacy, I dreaded taking my shirt off in front of him because of that unsightly scar that had been stamped on my skin forever.

“How are things with the family?” he asked, changing the subject.

“Everything’s fine. I visit Terry and Tiffany when I can. I’m taking them to the movies tomorrow.”

“That’s nice of you.”

“Mom and Rob are getting marriage counseling.”

“Is that so?”

I nodded. “He still doesn’t want a divorce.”

“That doesn’t surprise me. What woman in her right mind would want to marry that prick? Of course he’d want to keep her. He’s nothing without Natalie—no offence.”

“None taken.”

“How do you feel about your mother’s decision?”

“I don’t blame her for wanting to leave. Rob’s done a lot I can’t forgive. Just because he’s my biological dad doesn’t mean he’s been a real father to me.”

“I know, baby.” Noah frowned. His voice was so comforting. Every time we spoke, I felt better. “How badly do you miss me?”

I was about to answer him, but paused and said, “Do you remember that quote I used in that picture I told you about last year?”

“Of course.”
