She tinkles out a laugh that I suppose is supposed to be unthreatening but is the opposite coming from her. We’ve worked with her in the past, but she is as dangerous as Austin. Ever since she lost her pack, she’s lived life on the edge.

“Right, because you’re so saintly,” she laughs again and rolls her eyes before they drift over to Felix. “Flea, two times in one night, how lucky can a girl get?”

“What do you want, Mel?” I ask as Felix huffs out an annoyed breath and looks away from her.

“Conversation. Something to ease the boredom of this event. Where did Austin run off to?”

“We aren’t your toys, Melody,” Felix replies. “Not here for your entertainment.”

“No? I suppose you are here for the same reason I am or Carmichael. The elusive Fairchild painting is said to be in the safe of Valentine’s apartment. I bet Austin would love to bring that home and put it back in its rightful spot in that old mansion up north. Make sure the old man stays dead and in his grave.”

I press my lips together and grit my teeth. The fact that it wasn’t hard to guess why we were here meant we hadn’t been careful enough.

“Is it stealing if it is his?” Felix quips. Not that he actually knows the plan.

“Who said anything about stealing, Flea?”

I step forward into her space, close enough to scent her. “His name is Fe-Lix. Say it right or not at all, understand?” The threat in my voice is heavy and true. She steps back with a smile playing on her lips.

“Oh my dear, Saintly,Fleais just that, a pest. Not even his parents wanted him once he disappointed them. Isn’t that right?” She turns her head slowly to look at him over my shoulder, and I growl low in my chest, the sound rumbling between us.

“One more word from your well-painted mouth and I will cut your lips from your face. Slowly. And I’ll enjoy every fucking second,” I say, every bit of malice I am feeling thread into my words, and she inhales, pressing her lips together. “Is that enough entertainment for you?”

“You really should be more careful airing your weaknesses in public. Someone that wasn’t a friend might use them against you,” she replies before throwing one last look at Felix and turning on her heel.

“Fuck, that was hot.” Felix runs his fingers down my arm, linking our fingers again. “You have anyone else you want to torture? We could make it a group project.”

The tension lifts, and I laugh. “You’d pass out.”

“Would I?”

“Yes, or did you forget the last time? The second they screamed and blood pooled beneath my blade, you were out.”

“I can handle blood just fine,” he replies.

“Yeah, if it is a bullet between someone’s eyes. No screaming or torture, though, right?” I tease.

“You’re the worst. When is Austin coming back?”

I hum. “You love me.”

He holds his fingers an inch apart. “Maybe just a little.”

Before I could reply or kiss him senseless, Austin is striding in the entrance like he owns the place. His gaze does a quick survey of the area in his calculated way before he heads over to us.

“Did you find what you forgot?” I ask as he comes to a stop next to me.

“Yes, and I ran into our omega,” he replies.

Felix’s eyebrows raise and I tilt my head, waiting for him to continue.

“The pickpocket?” I ask.

“Who else would be our omega?” he asks drolly. He runs his hands down his blazer before shoving them into his pockets, giving off thewho gives a fuckair he is known for.

Felix snorts. “At least she is beautiful.”

Austin gives him a look. “We talked about this already.”
