When we reach the edge of the cage, she shifts in my arms, silently demanding to be set down. Relenting, I slide her down my front before tugging her back into my chest. Fuck, if this isn’t a sweet torment I am engaging in.

Still, I have a part to play.

Everyone in attendance tonight needs to believe I’m completely gone for this girl.

Felix joins us after placing his bets for the fights I’m sure. He leans against the cage and drags his green eyes over us. I can read him like an open book, probably as well as he can read me.

He wants Audrey. Join the fucking party. After next weekend, and the job is done, she’s fair game. Not that she realizes that.

Melody catches my attention from the other side of the ring, and I hold in a sigh as she heads our way. In what feels like seconds, she is in front of us, leaning next to Felix on the chain link.

“Austin, is this the delightful omega that was with Felix this morning?” Her smoke voice wraps around us as she openly studiesmyomega.

Her musk of lilacs makes the air feel almost unbreathable.

“I can’t believe these three brought you here,” Melody addresses Audrey with a smile. “Blink twice if you need rescuing.” Her tinkling laugh flows around us as she throws her head back.

“She’s fine,” Felix barks. The full impact of his newly enquired alphaness is put on display with his annoyance.

The fact that he’s now an alpha doesn’t matter to me. We’ve always treated him like one, anyway. Only now it’s true. But Melody gives him another look as her laughter dies, the grin on her face growing and her eyes going wide as if she’s just learned a secret.

“Oh, Felix, how lucky you must feel finding the one to awaken you.” She shifts her gaze back to Audrey and her meaning clicks between two beats of my heart.

Involuntarily, my fingers flex into her soft stomach, ready to shield her.Mate? No. I don’t want a real thing with an omega. They only betray you in the end.Despite that, the look of interest shining in Melody’s eyes makes me want to put Audrey behind me, out of her view.

“Anyway, sweet omega, remember what I said earlier. If you needanything,I’ll help you.”

“My name is Audrey. I’m more than just an omega.” Audrey shifts beneath my touch, her muscles bunching like she is going to throw herself at Melody and claw out her eyes. “Even if I wasn’t exactly where I wanted to be, you’d be the last person I’d run to.”

When her hand settled over mine, keeping my touch on her, accepting it with her actions, I want to carry her out of the warehouse and back to the apartment to show her exactly what that does to me.

“Oh,” Melody laughs. “Austin, you have a type, don’t you? No meek little girls for you.”

“Did you need something?” I ask. “The fight is about to start.”

She follows my gaze that has locked on Dean as he strolls into the cage. All of his contained anger bleeds from him with each step. He had been on edge earlier, but this is something more.

“Just a friendly warning. Valentine knows.” Her gaze dips back to Audrey for a moment, but I am still stuck on her words.Valentine knows. How? As if she can hear my thoughts, she answers me. “I don’t know how. But I overheard him talking with his bodyguard. There will be added security next week. Maybe it isn’t your omega that needs help.” She tilts her head, but I can’t acknowledge that she hit the nail on the head. The tension in my shoulders doesn’t lie. I just have to hope that she doesn’t notice.

The manager of the fight club walks into the ring, and Melody sighs, her eyes running over Saint’s opponent. “How long do you think Oscar will last?”

“Not long knowing Saint,” Felix replies.

She hums and nods. Then walks away without saying goodbye.

“That alpha is crazy,” Felix says as soon as she is out of range.

I smile. “Yeah. But she has her uses.”

CHAPTER28

Saint

The relentless ideathat I would or could force my bite on Audrey hounds me, like I’m being hunted. The faint echo of her words in my head.I don’t want a pack. Especially one with three alphas. Do you think I’m crazy? She doesn’t want us. Who am I to make her stay? I would be no better than my asshole father.

Yet every single part of me wants to lock it in. Claim her. Deal with the fallout later.

Fuck.
