Her lips parted, and she leaned over to press them against the shell of her new mate’s ear. She watched goosebumps bloom in rivets over his skin.

“I am now, and I will forever be. But please, never stop asking. I love it.”

Kael took her face in his hands and crushed her mouth with a fervent kiss. It made her dizzy, yet she never wanted it to stop.

“Oh, gross!”

Suki had snuck up on them after greeting some of Kael’s relatives. When they peeled each other from the kiss, Sarah couldn't help but lick her lips.

“Oh, please. One day, you’ll kiss someone you love just like that,” Kael said with a wink.

Suki gave a dramatic grimace, then bent over, clutching her stomach and feigning vomiting sounds. Both Kael and Sarah burst into laughter.

“Yeah, Dad, but not yet,” Suki exclaimed. “I don’t like the idea of kissing. That’s where your food goes …”

Sarah slipped her hand into Kael’s, then into Suki’s. She wore a dress similar to the one that adorned Sarah’s body but far more tempered and childlike. Her hair was in a double braid as dark as her father’s.

“And that’s fine, honey. No matter what, whatever you feel is fine,” Sarah whispered. “Now, what do you say about dancing with me?”

Suki clapped enthusiastically, hopping up and down. She pulled at Sarah with a strength she wasn’t expecting, making her stumble a bit, and then Sarah glanced back at Kael.

Her husband. Her mate.

“I love you,” she mouthed.

“I love you even more,” he mouthed back.

Suki dragged Sarah to the center of the ballroom, where music that resembled something folksy rang out with lively guitar riffs. Sarah lifted the girl into her arms, her long legs wrapping around her waist, the child pinning her head to Sarah’s chest.

They danced with great reverie, laughing at their differences in steps but ultimately embracing what one another brought to the table. It was the same way with Kael, as it would be till the end of time.

“Are you and Daddy going to make me a baby brother?”

Sarah stopped in the middle of the swaying, connecting with Suki’s glittering eyes.

“What did you say?” she yelled over the music.

“I want a brother,” she yelled back, smiling.

Sarah felt the urge to bring her hand to her stomach, where new life had already begun to blossom. She knew all about the Drakonians and their intuition, but Suki’s was starting to resemble complete telepathy.

Without knowing, they both knew. Sarah pressed her forehead against the little girl’s

“Well, I don’t think you are going to have to wait very long for that.”

The new world and life were waiting, and Sarah would walk into it with open arms. But never alone.

TWENTY-EIGHT

KAEL

Sarah stared at her new husband, and Kael knew that Sarah was overjoyed at the thought of finally having a family.

He smiled down at her as she wrapped her arms happily around his neck, and the warmth from her skin heated his entire body.

A surge of desire must have washed over Sarah then because suddenly, all Kael could smell was Sarah’s arousal.

He didn’t need to wait for any prompting from her but lifted her into his arms and carried her to their bed.
