I tell him everything that happened, leaving out the filthy details of me and his sister. I explain to him how much danger she’s in, being alone in Herrera territory, hoping he understands that I need him here to help me bring her back. By the time I’m done, he sighs.

“You love her, don’t you?”

Love? No, what I feel for her goes so far beyond love, it’s sick. I have been watching this girl since she was a freshman in college almost a year ago, but over the last few days, that intrigue turned into obsession. Desperation doesn’t even cover the feelings rushing through me when I think of her in the south.

Still, I can’t explain that to him. “Are you going to help me or not?”

“What about your bitch ass father?” he asks.

“I’ll handle him,” I answer without hesitation. “The jet will be at Louis Airfield in five hours. Be there.”

“Oyé,” his disrespectful tone stops me from hanging up, “I don’t care who you are or what kind of power you have, if I learn that you’ve hurt my sister,te mataré.”

I hang up then, not bothering to tell him that his threat falls on deaf ears; only his sister has the power to end my life.

A flash of Vicenta’s hair flying behind her back as she sped away from me sets a heavy stone on my chest. Her smile at the beach, her moans in my ear, her sexy eyes on mine as I fucked her, claimed and marked her; it all replays in my mind like a bitter memory. My fist connects with the steering wheel as I curse my father and that motherfucker, Romero Herrera.

Losing her would be a tragedy I wouldn't be able to come back from.

No, I will not lose her. I will get her back no matter how much blood I have to spill. I won’t let my hollow chest make a return, not where it concerns her.

For now, I’ll drift in this ocean of misery, planning my survival so I don’t drown.

ROMERO

“BUYA” by Domino Saints

Alvaro climbs back into his car and takes off at angry speeds, my smile coming back as I watch his pathetic armor fall in pieces behind him. Who is this girl that turned the cold cartel prince into a bleeding heart? The girl I met last night is certainly disarming, but how did she manage to break through the fortress Alvaro built around himself?

It was ridiculously easy to get into the mansion—pathetically so, really—but it helps that Marío’s men have the same routine and shift change they’ve had for years. They’re comforted in the non-aggression pact we signed years ago.

Still, when Marío boasted to me about his new woman, I grew restless, especially when he mentioned how her beauty had drawn in Alvaro as well. I’m sure he meant that to be some kind of bait during our meeting, but I gave him no sign of my piqued interest.

I’ve known Alvaro my entire life; hell, he was my best friend at one point. His mother was a very distant family member, but loved as though she were closer. Her and my mom were as tight as me and Alvaro were.

We parted ways five years ago, an ending I’m glad we reached, but it was bitter enough to have left a mark. I’ve never seen him react this way though, not in a very long time, at least. Alvaro never shows his weakness but now that he has, color me fucking intrigued.

“Pathetic,” I mutter into my helmet before turning and weaving through the streets in the direction the girl went.

Vicenta.Ella es increíble. I knew something would be happening between the Banderas prince and her, and it was confirmed through the open mic I placed on my guard stationed with Katalina within the Banderas territory. Things took an unexpected—yet stillsomewhatexpected—turn today.

I only allowed Katalina to enter the northern borders when Marío offered Alvaro as her husband, but I didn’t let her go in without making sure I could confirm my suspicions. What I wasn’t expecting was for Vicenta to run away when she learned of the betrothal.

Marío wants to broker another agreement with me for my alliance. Of course, I said yes, but only because I wanted to fuck with Alvaro. I will never be Marío’s ally and I never would have allowed my little sister to marry his son.

To be honest, I don’t think I’ll ever let that asshole marry anyone—he doesn’t deserve a fucking happy ever after. Messing with the cold prince is just one of the few joys I get out of life. Besides, Katalina is too good for the likes of that pretty, green-eyed bastard.

She’s the illegitimate child of my father, a product of his infidelity against my mother, Olivia. Romero Senior refused to acknowledge his daughter despite my mother’s pleading for him to bring the child home—yeah, my mom was good like that. I promised Mom I would do it one day, and I kept my word, even after she passed away.

When my father was finally rotting in his coffin, I brought Katalina home to Acapulco so she’d finally have everything her last name grants her. She may be seen as illegitimate in the eyes of the cartel world, but she’s my baby sister no matter what. She’s a valuable asset too—tough as I am, mean as a heathen, and cunning as a snake. If she were a man, she’d rule her own empire…hell, she might still do that.

But the events following my sister’s arrival in the Banderas mansion has me wondering just how well Alvaro got to know his soon-to-be stepmommy.

This unknown American girl has turned son against father in a matter of days. She has uprooted an empire single-handedly and I’m not sure if I should keep her for myself, or kick her out of my territory before she curses my land too.

My eyes scan the streets as I drive through South Acapulco, but the girl is nowhere to be seen. I was surprised at how well she handled the Ducati; I never would have suspected that a tiny slip of a woman would be able to outmaneuver a driver such as Alvaro. It’s just another tally on the interesting side of the board.
