“You can do that?”

“The SEALs do it all the time.”

“Yeah, but have you done that? Back in the Special Forces, I mean.”

“Something similar, yes.”

“Which is faster, the boat or parachuting in?” I asked, even though the answer was obvious.

“Parachuting in.”

“I’ve never parachuted into water before,” I said. “I’ve parachutedmultiple times, but never into water.”

If you do the jump out of a Gulfstream jet, Eve wrote, make sure you go out the baggage exit.

“What?” I asked, bewildered.

“Parachuting into water is one of the reasons I’d recommend we get the boat,” Johnny said.

“How long would that take – to fly down there and get the boat, then get to Miranda’s ship?”

Johnny grimaced. “I don’t know. Anywhere from twelve to eighteen hours.”

“That’s too long. Do we have the equipment to do the scuba approach?”

“Everything but the underwater sleds that’ll get us to the boat.”

“Can you get those?”

Johnny sighed. He could tell I’d made up my mind. “I can get them within two hours, yeah.”

“What about guns and getting them in water?”

“All that matters is the ammo is airtight so the gunpowder doesn’t get wet,” Johnny said. “And the ammunition I’ve got is fine for that.”

“How soon can we leave, then?”

“As soon as we get the sleds. So two hours, two-and-a-half tops.”

“And how long will it take to fly there?”

Johnny shrugged. “Three and a half, maybe four hours on the latest Gulfstream.”

I calculated in my head. “That means we can be there before dawn.”

“This is incredibly dangerous, Connor,” Johnny warned. “And I’m only talking about the jump and the landing. Once we make it to the ship, Miranda is sure to have an armed crew onboard.”

“Plus it’s a trap,” Bert said. “She knows you’re coming. She wants you to come.”

“I know, and I don’t care. If there’s even a chance Lily’s alive and onboard, I have to take it.” I turned back to Johnny. “Make the phone calls and set it all up – I want to be airborne in three hours or less.”
