Aero nodded with a sheepish look on his face. He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead and left the room.

In the small bathroom, Aero quickly cleaned up, embarrassment streaking through him again. To counter it, Aero replayed the experience over and over in his mind. It was a pure, unadulterated pleasure having her hands on him, being so close to her, and having her moan and sigh for him. Even better than he had dreamed for nights on end, waking up in damp, sweaty sheets with a raging hard-on. He hadn’t touched himself, though, not wanting to use Sam to sate his carnal needs without her consent. Maybe he should have, he mused, and then he would have lasted longer. Another flush of embarrassment heated his face but receded when he recalled the way Sam looked at him, her eyes bright with arousal at his climax.

Suddenly wanting to be back beside her, Aero washed his hands and returned to the bedroom, finding Sam seated against the pillows.

“Do you wanna sit back in the living room or lay in bed?” Sam asked, sounding a bit unsure.

Aero hesitated. He wanted to lay down, to hold her in his arms and bury his face in her hair, to drift off to sleep holding her against his chest, but he wasn’t sure he could risk it. If he fell asleep…

“I’ll set an alarm,” Sam offered, following his train of thought with the look on his face.

“Okay,” he said, his voice gravelly. “Just for a few minutes.”

Sam grinned at him, leaning over and picking up her phone, tapping at the screen.

Aero walked toward her on shaky legs and sat on the edge of the bed. “Before you start that, I think we need to talk.”

A flash of fear showed in Sam’s eyes, but she nodded slowly.

Taking a deep breath, Aero spoke quickly. “As much as I liked that, I think we need to slow down.”

Understanding dawned, and Sam smiled. “Sure.”

“I want you, but…” Aero gulped. “I’m not ready. I’m sorry, but—”

Before he finished, Sam was shaking her head. “You don’t have to apologize. I understand.”

“Yeah, but—”

“No. You don’t have to be sorry. We’ll take it slow.” Sam stroked his knuckles with her thumb. “I’ve got time.”

Aero gazed into her eyes, finding nothing but sincerity in their golden depths. “Thank you.”

She yawned, holding out her phone so he could see it. There was a timer set for twenty minutes.

“Good?” she asked, and he nodded. She double-checked that the volume was up, hit start, and set the phone on her dresser.

She didn’t want to waste this opportunity, so she whipped her shirt over her head, leaving her in just her bra. Aero’s eyes widened as he took her in. She was lovely. Her skin was smooth and tan, and the pink lace of her bra matched the flush of her face. He swallowed hard.

“Under the covers,” she instructed, and he complied, pulling off his boots and shucking his jeans. He pulled the covers back, and she scooted over to make room. He followed, pressing his chest against her back and wrapping a strong arm around her middle.

Her skin was soft and warm, even through his shirt. He tucked his face into the crook of her neck, inhaling her lavender scent. His hand rested on her stomach, feeling her breathe in and out.

“How’s this?” she whispered, resting a hand on top of his.

Aero swallowed over the lump in his throat. “Perfect.”

He hadn’t been that close to someone in years, and Sam felt so right beside him. It could have been that he was tired, that he was entirely sated, or that she was made for him. No matter the reason, he couldn’t have left that bed if the house was on fire.

Sam smiled, letting his warmth surround her as she drifted to sleep.

All too soon, her alarm went off.

Aero jolted awake, sitting bolt upright and looking around.

“It’s okay,” she murmured, rolling out of bed and turning off the alarm.

“Sorry to make you do that,” he said, his voice thick with sleep.
