“We’ve got other stuff that needs our attention.”

“Yeah, but you also need an answer.’

“Whatever it is, we’ll sort it. Right?” Alana says, looking at me and Reid.

“Of course. You fucking know that, bro. And anyway, what’s to say it’s something bad?”

“Who would care enough about me to be stalking Ezra to ask questions?” JD mutters.

Reid shrugs. “I dunno. Someone from your past. From a home or foster family? Were there ever any girls you connected with?”

“Just Maya,” he whispers before turning to me. “What if you’re right? What if I’ve fucked up and?—"

“Then we’ll deal with it,” Alana promises.

“It could be a million other things. What happened to your mom?” I ask, cringing as I do so because I should know this shit. “Your dad?”

“Both dead as far as I’m concerned,” JD sneers.

“Okay, but there’s nothing to say this isn’t someone digging into your genetics or something.”

“I guess,” he mutters. “Even if it is, why the fuck would they want to get to know me. I’m not exactly someone most families would want.”

“Hey, that’s bullshit and you know it,” Alana snaps fiercely.

JD just shrugs, not willing to agree.

“Just look at Daisy. It’s been less than a week and that little girl is obsessed with you,” I point out. “And you didn’t need to give her sugar to make her like you,” I deadpan.

“Hey,” Reid argues. “She likes me just fine.”

“Yeah, now she does.”

“Whatever it is, man. We’ll deal with it together, yeah? And if we’re lucky, it’ll happen once we’ve wiped Victor out so we can actually focus on it.”

“Yeah, about that…” Alana starts.

“Soon, Pet. Really fucking soon.”

My spine straightens. “I fucking knew you knew where he is.”

“This is bigger than just his location,” Reid explains. “He’s not just hiding out in some cabin by the sea living the high life.”

“Do I need to point out that that was your suggestion?” I scoff.

Reid glares at me but doesn’t say a word.

“Once I’ve got my army formed, we’ll be taking him down.”

The seriousness of the situation presses down on me.

Reid’s been working toward this takeover for a long ass time, longer than I ever could have appreciated if I didn’t end up being a part of it.

All the time Harrow Creek thought he was standing behind his father as next in line for leadership, we were wrong. He wasn’t just learning what to do, he was learning Victor’s weaknesses. Finding any way he could to take Victor down.

Things might not have gone the way he was planning, Alana certainly helped hinder all of that. But I’ve every confidence that he’s still going to get what he wants. What he deserves.

“It can’t come soon enough,” I say, reaching out and squeezing his shoulder. “Just say the word, and we’re there.”
