Something that would never—could never—happen.

I turned around and let the shower spray me in the face until I felt my courage return.

When I finally got out and dried off, I opened the door—to a quiet, empty bedroom.

Thank goodness.

I threw on a pair of yoga pants and a baggy sweater. Opting more for comfort than style.

Something inside told me I’d be downstairs for a while.

It had taken me longer than Nick’s prescribed five minutes. I knew that.

But I also needed that time to myself. It hadn’t occurred to me until now how little time I had by myself now.

It was almost non-existent.

Which seemed bizarre, considering where I’d been such a short time ago. I used to spend most of my days alone—other than Dani, of course.

Or when Eve needed me to help with her siblings.

And when Stefan would come over in the early days—when we were just friends.

I wandered out the bedroom door, down the long hallway—careful to be as quiet as I could and not wake the kids.

When I strolled into the living room, everyone was already there, like I’d suspected.

The seating arrangements surprised me, and I stopped in the entryway. Eve sat in between Carlo and Stefan. And Nick was by himself on the couch on the other side of the room.

“Over here, Giselle.” Nick gestured with his hand for me to sit beside him.

Hmm.

This was interesting.

Carlo and Stefan didn’t object, so I did what Nick asked. As soon as I sat down, Nick pulled me in close to his side. His arm firmly around me. “Alright, your men have agreed to lower their voices.” He kissed the top of my head. “And I already know you’ll behave if I ask you to.”

I gazed up into Nick’s deadly handsome face. He gave me a sexy grin and I returned it. My arms wrapped around his body, and I squeezed him tight. “Thank you,” I said as I hugged him.

He tugged gently on my hair until our eyes met. “Anything for you, Giselle.” His lips touched mine, and we kissed like that for a moment.

He stopped the kiss, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he kept me right at his side. “You and Stefan had a nice time alone today. Am I correct about that?”

I nodded at him without looking over at the occupants of the other couch. “Yes, we had a lovely time.”

Nick smiled and kept his eyes on me. “That’s good. We all missed you, but I’m glad you two had fun.”

He cleared his throat and continued, “I’m assuming the subject of babies came up?”

I nodded again and kept my eyes on Nick. “Yes.”

His stare was steady, and he watched me closely. “And you agreed to make a baby with Stefan?”

I bit my lower lip and looked down at Nick’s chest. He wore a black T-shirt that fit him nicely.

I set my hand on it and felt his warmth seep through. “I did.”

I heard Carlo let out an angry noise. Somehow, I stayed focused on Nick.
