I give up, dumping my head into my hands; I say, “I messed up royally! There is no coming back from it.”
“Did you leave her on the street in the middle of the cold-ass night after she told you she loves you and then disappeared for two years after saying that she is nothing to you?”
“Um… that’s oddly specific…but no.”
“Then you didn’t mess up royally. Oh, and I also lied. And yet Katerina took me back after all that.” I raise my head and look at Julius. I knew they had a crazy story, but Lex never told me any details.
“You left her in the middle of the night? What the fuck?”
“This is not about me. Focus caveman. Go talk to her, explain whatever you need to explain, and beg. It will take lots of begging, and I guess a divorce for you…but that’s the choice you have to make.” I dump my head back into my hands.
“My wife and I are only married on paper. We stopped being a couple five years ago.” I don’t know why I’m offering this information to Julius, but it feels kind of nice to talk to a friend.
Not that I will admit it to him. Or the fact that he is my friend.
“Well, then, I don’t see a problem at all.” I exhale hard.
“It’s not that easy. I’ve done shit, stuff I’m not proud of, and her father knows about it.”
“Fuck, I’ll regret this, but…what kind of shit.” Julius’s tone definitely suggests that he is dealing with annoying kids, andwe are just about on his last nerve. Yet he is here, listening and trying to help. Huh, maybe not all friends are backstabbing snakes.
I tell Jules my story, the whole story…
“Damn it, I didn’t want to like you,” he says after I’m done.
“Okay….”
“You did the right thing, man. I would’ve done the same,” he takes out the bottle of scotch he snatched from me earlier and takes a long sip before passing it back to me, and I do the same.
“Now, go be honest with the woman you love for once and tell her the whole story. She deserves to know even if she doesn’t take you back.”
I tip my head back. “I need her back, Jules. I really, really need her.”
“You got her. Lexi loves you, and she has a way more forgiving heart than Katerina,” he says. “Now, if you ever, and I mean ever, repeat this to either one of them, I will actually kill you.” I laugh and mimic that my lips are sealed.
“Let’s go get your girl back.”
With that, Julius takes me home, forcing me to shower, eat and make myself look like a human again.
And there is one more stop I need to make before I face my girl. I need to visit my wife…

Stupid me, stupid, naive me.
What did you think would happen when you came rushing to his side? That Landon will drop to his knees and beg for forgiveness? Idiot. Of course, he didn’t. Not even close.
Instead, he yelled, was rude, and reminded me of why I should be happy our brief relationship ended sooner rather than later.

I spent the last twenty-four hours locked in my room, wallowing in self-pity and loathing, and I am not planning to come out any time soon.
