Our flight had landed past lunchtime, and Liam had Carl bring me home instead of AD before they headed straight to the club.

“Come on, spill. I want to hear all about the fairytale that put that stupid happy smile on your face.” She teased, pushing me to smile harder at the memory of everything that happened. Even finding out that Frank wasn’t my father came as a not-so-bad moment. I was free because of it. Free from his torture and his abuse. Free from the thought that I was such a bad human that not even my father could find it in him to love me.

I told her everything. From the gala to that creep, Mercier. From the awful flight to the exquisiteness of the dresses she ordered for me. From Frank’s confession to Liam’s caring thought of taking me home.

“He said he loved me, Alison.” I cooed, my heart melting at the sound of my own words. “Turns out he cares for me, too.”

“Oh my God, Jamie. I’m so happy for you both.” She jumped up and hugged me, crushing my bones with the sincerity of her joy in that tight grasp. “He means it, J. Liam wouldn’t say that if he didn’t truly mean it.”

“I think so, too. I mean, I felt it in the way he kissed me and looked at me, you know? I didn’t want to think too much of it because I was scared to be heartbroken if he didn’t. But the way he kisses me makes me feel it in my bones.”

“Ew. Cute, but ew.” She joked. “I’d totally be down for the dirty talk if we weren’t discussing my brother. I’d need a lobotomy after that kind of detail.”

“You are the best part of coming back, did you know that? I’d gladly stay away from reality a little longer.”

“Well, both of your lives are here. If you were able to make my stubborn brother admit that he is also worthy of love, you can do anything, Babe. You’re glued to him for life now.” The normally light and bubbly Alison was nowhere to be found as she spoke. The seriousness in her tone made me feel every one of those words more intensely.

I couldn’t help but smile at her. Somehow forever didn’t seem daunting at all once Liam was in the equation.

There was nothing but happiness running through my veins. A new sense of belonging I could have never described before for lack of experience.

I had an amazing friend who celebrated my victories and helped me in troubled times. I had the job of my dreams. And the icing on the cake was that I now had a boyfriend I loved, who looked at me as if I was the best thing in his life.

I was exactly where I was supposed to be. My past? If it hadn’t happened exactly how it did, I wouldn’t be here today. As hard as it had been, I couldn’t find an ounce of regret or resentment in me.

My heart warmed as I read Liam’s text for the hundredth time as Carl drove me to his apartment. Almost a demand for my company. I was only too happy to oblige.

Alison had left my apartment earlier, mumbling something about a date she didn’t really want to go on before shoving the red rose she found on my doorstep in my hand and faking nausea for the sweetness behind the gesture.

My palms were sweaty, the giddiness I felt in the restaurant last night returning to my gut as if I were meeting Liam for the first time ever. But I knew what it was. My body was calling to his, and I knew exactly what was about to happen. I shivered in delight at the thought, my mind trying to decide how I’d prefer him to be tonight – sweet or rough.

There were two sides to Liam, just like a shiny coin. Just like night and day. I’d discovered I liked the moon just as much as the sun.

The answer was right before me as soon as I walked down the hallway to his apartment.

I stopped in my tracks immediately when I saw him, halting my thoughts together with my breathing and any remaining ability to speak.

Liam was standing at his door waiting for me. He had nothing on besides a dangerously low-hanging pair of jeans, the button suggestively popped open.

His hands were up on the door frame, stretching his body out, his muscles tensing into masses of perfection. His black hair was wet and messy, only adding to the allure of the mouth-watering picture before me. But it was his eyes that gave me the answer I sought. Dark, shady, and dead-hungry eyes watched my every movement like a predator watches his prey.

It wasn’t hard to figure out what was for dinner.

Me.

I was. And I had absolutely no objection to it.

Without a word, Liam stepped aside and extended his arm in a silent invitation for me to enter his lair. The door slammed shut behind me a second before Liam’s arm wrapped around my waist. Before I could blink, I was pinned against the door, his lips a mere whisper away from mine, fanning my face with his hot, heaving breath.

I looked into those pools of green and saw raw need. A lust charged with something else I couldn’t decipher.

We stood there for a moment, just searching each other’s soul, our breaths and hearts evening out and pulsing in sync. Liam towered over me, his arm caging me against the door while his other hand sunk each one of its digits into the flesh of my hip.

This intensity, this closeness would have scared me a few months ago, but then those dirty words of his came tumbling into my mind, and I was all but ready to combust. Good fucking girl.

Liam bit his bottom lip harshly, drawing a sharp inhale through his nose before unleashing his wrath in a mindblowing kiss.

It was harsh, dominant, and lustful, but filled with a kind of need that ignited my heart. The hand he had on my hip pulled me closer to him as his mouth ravished mine without control. The other had slipped into my hair, fisting it to deepen our kiss.
