“Yeah. I’m fine. You can come in if you want.”

“My bones are feeling the cold wa–” I walked in, my words being cut by the sight before me. Jamie was lying on my bed, stomach against the mattress, her ass barely covered by the dry t-shirt I had given her.

My cock couldn’t help but twitch. Cold or not, it was growing hard because of her. Every ounce of strength in my body was used to tear my gaze away from the perfection of her skin. Pink, tight, ripe for a good hand print to be marked as a reminder of who she now belonged to.

It would be a suitable punishment for the agony she was teasing me into. It was a test, and by the sigh she released as I walked right past her, I had failed miserably.

Her eyes were set on me, watching as I pulled on a dry pair of underwear and sweats, only to follow me as I walked to the bathroom to change.

Denying her was like a poison spreading through my veins, but until I opened my personal Pandora's box to her, this was necessary. I could have just blurted it out, but I was a selfish fucker, and I wanted to have at least today with her.

One damn day to enjoy her before wrecking it without the possibility of amendment.

When I came out of the bathroom, Jamie was sitting on the edge of the bed, a worried expression knitting her brows together while her thumbs fumbled with each other.

“Come.” I simply said, my hand stretched out for her to take.

Jamie looked up at me, her questions and reticence flashing in her eyes before she stood to her feet and placed her hand in mine like a feather. She wasn’t sure of that decision, and it was clear in the lightness of her grasp.

We walked towards the living room with our fingers intertwined, her hand fitting in mine as if it had been made exactly for me.

I sat on the couch, but Jamie didn’t follow. She stood there hesitating, looking at the other end where she had been sitting the very first time she came here.

“Not a chance,” I grunted possessively, knowing she was thinking about putting some distance between us. I pulled on her hand hard enough to have her stumbling right to the place I wanted her in. Right next to me, her skin touching mine, her side glued to me as if we were a single item. “This is your place.”

“But…” Jamie searched for words she didn’t have. The questions were there, I saw them, but she didn’t know exactly what to ask.

I didn’t try to word them for her. I still wasn’t ready to answer them. I needed to take everything I could, feed off of her for today. My fear of losing her to my truth was all too real, and I needed a sample of my addiction that could at least live on in my memory.

I buried my nose in the crook of her neck, inhaling her until my lungs couldn’t take anymore.

“Liam,” her voice was small and shaky.

“Hmm?” I merely hummed, my senses completely inebriated by her scent.

“Is everything okay? Did I do something I shouldn’t have?”

“No, not at all.”

“Then please tell me what’s going on.” She pressed, her eyes brimming with uncertainty. I couldn’t delay it anymore. Jamie was just a breath away from pulling away anyhow.

“Okay,” I finally conceded. “But you have to promise to hear me out before you run.”

Jamie

Liam was pushing me away again.

Even though his touch said the exact opposite, he was keeping me at arm’s length, in a limbo between belonging and merely being.

He brushed it off each time I asked, saying he needed to tell me things before we moved forward, but that was as much info as he was willing to give about his strange behavior. A couple of hours had gone by and I was still in the dark, battling with my thoughts, but finally, it felt like he was ready to open up.

“Why would I run?” I asked, confused.

“Because I’m not the person you think I am. And what I’m about to tell you will change how you see me forever. It will change your feelings, too.”

“You’re making me nervous, Liam. Can you please just spit it out?”

What on Earth could be so bad that my feelings for him would change? There was nothing I could think of that would make me want to step away from this. From him.
