“I’ve always loved Carly passionately. She’s the only one I’ve ever loved. At first, she was too young, and then she saw me with another woman. I don’t even remember that woman’s name I brought home with me that day. Sean opened the door, and Carly was standing there barefoot, in her overalls with a tiny tank top. She looked incredible, but I knew she needed to go to college. I was twenty-five, and she was eighteen. Was I supposed to propose marriage when she hadn’t even had a chance to leave the mountain?”
“And then the rumor started about Charlotte and me being engaged when Carly graduated college. I was on my to her house to tell her how I felt when her brother, furious as hell, informed me that Carly had run off with Jim Harlow and married him.”
“I missed up; I wanted to give Carly the opportunity to enjoy college life because I knew we’d eventually get married and start our family together.”
“Why didn’t you explain all of this to Carly? Do you know why she never left Jim Harlow, even though he abused her? Because he threatened to kill the one person she loved the most in this world, and that was you, brother. Carly loves you as much as you love her. Make her understand the depth of your feelings for her when she wakes up.”
“I’m scared. I’ve been trying to make her jealous, but it’s not working.”
“That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. You need to talk to Carly.”
“I will as soon as I get a chance.”
“You need to make her understand, and to do that, don’t let her out of your sight when she gets well enough to leave the hospital. Follow her, move in with her. When I met Bailey, I fell in love with her the moment she started talking to me. She thought I was crazy when I moved into her cabin and I wouldn’t let her out of my sight. That’s what you have to do.”
“I can’t believe I’m taking advice from a man who didn’t believe in love, but look at you now. Bailey told me you wanted ten kids. We’ll never finish building that cabin. I’m honored to help expand the first Peterson cabin. We all love Bailey. I swear if you hadn’t claimed her, Mike would have. You chose the perfect bride.”
We remained in the hospital until the early hours of the morning when the doctor finally arrived. “Carly sustained significant injuries from her encounter with those men. She may not wake up for a few days; even then, it’s uncertain. We had to shave a spot on the back of her head where the injury is, just in case she has brain swelling. We tried to minimize the hair loss as much as possible. Right now, all we can do is wait.”
I heard a knock at my hotel room door as I emerged from the shower. I looked out the peephole and saw my beloved standing there, in the pouring rain. I opened the door and pulled her inside, into my arms, and kissing her passionately as I pulled her top up over her head. “I missed you. Get out of those clothes. How is my baby doing,” I asked, bending down to kiss her stomach.
“The baby is doing great. Could you help me out of these pants?” I had her stripped naked in less than a minute. I dropped my towel and held her close.

His scent surrounded me, and his hands ran down my body. My blood pounded in my ears as loud as the rain that slashed against the windows. I rose up on tiptoe to meet him more than halfway as Cole bent his head and touched his warm lips to mine. He devoured my mouth and found out I was as hungry for him as he was for me. His tongue plunged between my lips. Unreserved fire and passion met him head-on. His hands ran through my hair, and he crushed his mouth to mine. My body melted against him. Hunger surged inside us. When we landed on the bed, He was careful not to crush my body under his. He held himself over me.
“No, I want to feel your body touching mine,” I whispered. The touch of his hands so warm on my skin sent sensations straight to my center and made me ache as a slight sound escaped my lips.
Cole kissed my neck and looked into my eyes. “We are going to take our time, sweetheart, so lay back, and let’s enjoy each other.”
He slid his hand over one curved hip. Over the smooth skin, my hips lifted when he pulled me against his hardness, pressing it into my hip.
I ran my hands across Cole’s broad chest and felt his muscles quiver at my touch.
His hand slipped between my thighs, and I cried out on a half sob of pleasure as he touched my delicate, aching flesh.
All I could feel was his touch. All I knew was the heat and the need that moved through my body. I was speechless, nearly mindless. When Cole entered me, I thought I would perish lying under him as he made passionate love to me.

I have never felt like this with any other woman. We made love throughout the night. When Bailey woke up, I lay on my side, watching her sleep. She smiled. “Was I snoring?”
“No,” I replied and smiled. “You’re beautiful. Want to shower with me?”
“I was hoping you would ask me that question. Are we going to the hospital to visit Carly?”
“Yes, we’ll leave later.” I watched Bailey stretch and hold her hand out for me to pull her out of bed. I pulled her into my arms and kissed her. As I led us to the shower, our bare bodies wrapped around each other.
I didn’t know her body could be so sensitive. Just a little touch from me and her body would orgasm. She cried happy tears and tears of fulfillment. I kissed her everywhere when she cried tears of satisfaction. I tried to calm her tears. My heart expanded in my chest with love for Bailey. Every time I saw her, I loved her more. I whispered my love to her as we made love, in the shower.
We were dressing when Bailey brought up Carly and Ryan. “Tell me what’s going on has Carly woken up yet?”
“No, and Ryan hasn’t left the hospital since we got here. I didn’t want to leave him, so I asked you to come here. I was going to call her mom, but they don’t get along. Plus, Ryan told me if I call Carly’s mother, he would give the woman an earful if she showed up here.”
“Well, don’t you think she’s heard about what happened to Carly? I mean, everyone on the mountain knows she was taken.”
“I’ll call Mark at the police department, and he can tell her we found Carly.”
