I loved the thrill and excitement racing through Daisy’s voice. She was really getting a kick out of this, and so was I.

I glanced at Daisy slumping down in the seat. “Well, we live in a small town. I don’t think he’ll think much of it.”

She pounded my shoulder and nodded. “Right there. Park. We’ll go grab a coffee and tell Abby what we’ve learned. It’ll make this look like we had this planned all along.”

I laughed and found a spot to park as Daisy craned her neck.

“I wonder where Nate’s going.”

“Hardware store? Café? Antique store? The world is his oyster,” I teased.

She frowned and watched Nate wander across the crosswalk. “Another very important point to take note of is whether he’s truly single. We can’t go hooking up people who aren’t, you know, available.”

Shaking my head, I chuckled. “That’s probably a good rule of thumb.”

Daisy gave a quick nod and opened her door, climbing out of the seat. “We have twenty more minutes before Tate wakes up. I promised Amy she could get her nails done when he does, so we have to get home soon.”

I shut my door and followed Daisy onto the sidewalk, sliding my hand over hers as she kept an eye on Nate.

“See? Hardware store.”

Daisy slid out her phone and texted someone. “What are you doing?”

She winked at me. “Research.”

We wandered into the coffee shop, and I realized singles didn’t have a chance at remaining that way in Buttercup Lake, at least as long as the Sunshine Breakfast Club was around.

“Hey, Daisy.” Abby waved as we walked up to the counter. “How’s it going?”

“Great. If you know what I mean.” She waggled her brows. “I’d like a caramel brûlée latte.”

Daisy’s phone buzzed, and she looked down as I ordered my drink.

“Hmm.” Daisy looked over at Abby.”

“What’s up?”

“Nate bought a few hinges and sample paint, a seafoam green.”

Abby nodded as if that told her everything she needed to know.

“What am I missing?” I asked.

Daisy cocked her head and looked at me strangely as we made our way down the counter. “What’s making him decide to paint his house? Is he trying to impress someone? Who’s coming to see his walls? What does he feel the need to fix all of a sudden?”

My brows quirked. “Well, when you put it that way, it’s as clear as mud.”

Daisy swept a kiss on my cheek just as the man of the hour walked into the coffee shop.

“Hey, Nate,” Abby nearly hollered to warn Daisy.

She spun around to see our sheriff glancing at the bakery section. “I know I said I was only going to do a drink earlier, but I really need that croissant after my swim session.”

“Coming up, Nate,” Abby said, bending over to pick one out.

A barista called out our drinks as Daisy waved at Nate. “Any fun plans tonight?”

Nate shrugged. “If you call painting a portion of my dining room fun, then yeah?”
