Carrion pushed off the wall and walked toward me, dropping to his knees so close we touched. How odd.

“You were a secret because he loved you so much.”

I blinked. “How do you know that?”

Carrion’s eyes rolled back, going white as I stared, shocked when his head snapped back and then forward when his eyes opened. “Rook left you something. It’s at The Crossroads. You have to be the one to find it.”

“Uh, okay.”

Carrion turned to Crow. “Leave in the next thirty minutes. Delay any longer, and you won’t reach The Roost in time.” He stood, gesturing to Hawk. “We need to ride. Now.”

Crow waved them off. “Go.”

He didn’t ask how Carrion knew any of this.

I stared at his retreating back and watched Hawk follow him out. “I’m scared.” Fear had latched onto me with Carrion’s words.

“That wasn’t his intention,” Talon promised.

Crow grimaced. “Carrion’s a bit cryptic, but he told you those things because that’s his gift. He likes to help.”

“I’m so confused. None of this makes any sense.” My logical brain kept trying to put all this information together in a neat, composed pile, and it wasn’t working.

Outside, I heard multiple crows. The caws overlapped as if they were agitated or angry.

“The crows,” I began as my brother rushed to his feet.

He glanced at his watch. “Ten minutes.” He glanced at Raven, then Talon. “Carrion gave us thirty, but I’m not pushing it. Help her pack.”

“Austin?” I asked as my voice cracked.

“You’re riding with me, Gail. I won’t let anything happen to you. I swear it.”

I had to trust him. With a nod, I placed the photo back in my purse and stood, rushing into the room I used for the last couple of weeks. The same room I shared with Talon.

We didn’t have sex again, but he held me every single night. And I lost my heart to him a little more with every day we spent together.

He reached for my hand and led me to our room. “I’ll grab a couple of bags. Pack what you can, and we’ll send a prospect back for the rest.”

Raven helped me as I emptied drawers and packed all the essentials. He cleared everything from the bathroom and placed it in my travel bag while Talon packed his own.

We were ready in six minutes.

Talon tilted my chin up as Raven grabbed a bag. “I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to do this again.” His mouth covered mine, and the kiss that followed almost buckled my knees. He nibbled and licked at my mouth and groaned as we separated.

“Crow won’t be happy,” Raven announced.

“Not his choice,” Talon responded, “it’s hers.”

Raven shook his head with a chuckle. “This should be fun.”

Talon shrugged. “It’ll work out.”

I wanted to believe him, but when we exited the room, and Crow glanced at our clasped hands, he narrowed his eyes.

Yeah, Crow wasn’t going to like this at all.
