He presses his lips against my ear and whispers, "I've wanted to pick up where we left off. Tell me where you're staying and I'll drop by later,"

He releases me and I stumble backward.

Years worth of suppressed memories come rushing to the forefront of my mind. They completely take over me.

My heart races inside my chest and white spots cloud my vision.

It becomes increasingly harder to take a breath, and the next thing I know I'm staring at the ceiling.

Darkness starts to consume me, and before I can call out for Ivar, it's pitch black.

As I slowly come to, my vision is filled with multiple blurry figures looming over me.

The harsh glow of fluorescent hospital lights makes my head throb and my eyes water. I try to sit up but a sharp pain in my chest makes me wince and lay back down.

Panic sets in as I frantically look around, searching for answers.

To my right, I see Ivar's familiar face and instinctively reach out for his hand, seeking comfort in his touch.

On my left, there is a weight on my shoulder and I turn to see Eli's face, twisted into a fake smile.

"What happened?" I manage to croak out, fear and confusion coursing through me.

Eli's smile falters as he replies, "We were so worried about you."

The sound of his voice ignites a fire within me and I lash out, screaming at him to keep his distance.

"Don't you fucking touch me!" I roar, my voice hoarse and raw.

Ivar immediately reacts, pulling Eli's hand off my body with a fierce grip.

"Back the fuck up," he growls at Eli, his protective instincts kicking in.

With a heavy exhale, Eli falls back and I feel my tension release.

My gaze turns upwards to meet Ivar's concerned expression.

"Where are we headed?" I ask, trying to steady my breathing and figure out what's going on.

The sound of old wheels squeaking against the linoleum floor startles me. It takes a moment for me to register that I am lying on a gurney.

"They're admitting you so we can figure out what's going on, Star," Ivar patiently explains. "You fainted in your mother's hospital room."

A wave of panic washes over me as I remember what had happened.

Fuck, why would I have passed out like that?

All I remember is feeling so scared, and then I went down.

I shut my eyes, knowing exactly why I passed out—my menace of a stepfather.
