“I don’t trust very many people,” Antonio says, letting the folder drop to the floor, refocusing his attention fully on us. “I need a couple of guys with your experience to protect Taylorand make sure she’s safe. You can pretty much name your price but I figured offering double what the bounty was and having my men look into your background, not stopping until they find something, would suffice.”

Remy is actually speechless, which is very shocking to me and entertaining to Antonio.

“You would be protecting her until this whole situation is over and nothing or no one else is threatening her.” Antonio slams back the whole bottle of water, handing it to one of his guards to dispose of.

I glance in Remy’s direction one more time as he is frantically nodding up and down, not being subtle about it.

The turn of events is shocking but interesting. “Agreed, but I need to bring in some of my men that I pick.” ‘The Ghost’ nods. He must be terrified of something to be this desperate.

He stands there watching us as calculating thoughts crash through his mind. I have no idea how he could trust so easily. We could turn on him any second.

“You are desperate,” I point out. “This must be really bad.”

He nods. “It is.” Shaking his head back and forth, he continues, “I’ve had you guys vetted for a while, basically we’ve been watching you as you’ve been watching Taylor and her friends.” Remy gasps as I smirk, this man is damn good. “I don’t trust either of you for one second but I have a feeling, and I have decided to go with you over men that I have known for decades, because of what you promise, your calculations, your risks and the knowledge you have on people. A trueassassin.”

This day is going a hell of a lot better than I thought it would.

“A man named Miles Stoll, CIA, will also be working with you, not with you but watching you.” Antonio’s face changes as a mask of fury envelopes it. “If there’s any problems that threaten Taylor, I will execute the two of you without even thinking twice.” Message received.

I stand up as Remy follows and walk over, holding my hand out to shake Antonio’s. I plan on doing this job fucking excellent. Remy and I are set for a while, plus we have a chance to find out what happened in the beginning of our lives. The added cherry on top is I get to be around one of the hottest women I’ve ever seen. Her magnetic pull is fucking insane.

We are wary but happy. If this wasn’t ‘The freaking Ghost,’ I wouldn’t do it. I have a strong feeling about this man, working and learning from one of the greatest men in history has made this day fucking magnetic.

My mother walks with me to what must be a dining room area as we enter, closing the door. “We’ll have quiet in here,” she states as we go and sit by each other on dining room chairs.

The house is dusty and old. It looks as though no one has lived here for years, reaffirming my understanding that this is not my parents’ other house. My mom feels a little grossed out by it and very uncomfortable. They must’ve just purchased it, or they’re borrowing it from someone.

The doors fly open, putting the two guards on edge that are in the room with us. Eden, Chance, Joss and Pierce stomp in their radiant arrival.

“Are you okay?” Eden spits out as she wraps me in a hug.

“What happened?” Joss asks in her mellow and sleek voice.

“Where is that hot dad of yours?” Chance is a curious one looking around the small room, noticing my mother and getting a slight red tint to his dark cheeks.

“You guys, this is my mom, Tilly Quinn?” I’m not sure about the Quinn part but she gives me a nod as she walks up and squeezes my hand.

Eden opens her mouth to start talking as the door flies open again, irritating the guards even more as a person I haven’t seen in a long time walks through.

“Mac,” I state as I walk into his open arms giving him a hug.

He hugs me back hard. “Your dad has a pressing issue to deal with, so I figured I would just come in and say hi.”

Mac looks over at my friends and then gives another nod to one of the guards. “Your friends are going to be escorted to another room for now so that we can talk some, then your father wants to talk with you after he finishes what he’s doing now.”

Mom and I sit back down as Mac and the other guards take my friends to one of the other rooms to wait.

“How did you guys meet?” I ask my mom.

She smiles so brightly, one of the biggest I have ever seen out of her. It radiates energy and warmth.

“I was visiting a friend, a male friend.” She softens the last part. “In the middle of the night I had to get up and use the restroom and when I came back, your father had just ended the life of the man I was spending time with.” My mouth hits the floor, my mother witnessed someone murdered.
