“You just don’t see it. But I do.”

“Sarah is married to Ted Harris. They have a daughter.”

Joey wrinkled her nose. “Ted? Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Huh.” She shook her head. “No wonder she wants you.”

“Oh my God. You’re crazy, Josephina.”

“Maybe.”

He smiled. “See, now I want to kiss you.”

“Too late. The offer has expired.”

Sarah returned with two cups of coffee and two plates with pie à la mode. “Here you go. Enjoy.”

“Thank you, Sarah.” Joey looked at the pie in front of J.T.

“What?”

“Yours is bigger. She gave you the bigger piece.”

“Because she wants me?”

“Yep.”

J.T. pushed his plate toward her and switched it with hers. “Josephina, I’m glad you’re back in Castle Springs. I never knew how boring my life was until you came home.”

Chapter thirty-two

"It's the unavailable thing."

Sawyer and J.T. parked on the street, then jogged across to the bakery and went inside. Xander came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands on his apron.

“The O’Connell brothers. Good morning.”

J.T. nodded. “Morning, Xander.”

“What can I get you?”

Sawyer went to the display case. “Can we get four bear claws, please?”

“Sure.” Xander put four of the pastries in a paper bag and set it on the counter. “Anything else?”

“Two coffees. Large and black.”

“You got it.” Xander poured two coffees and set them next to the bag. “Seventeen dollars.”

Sawyer smiled at J.T., who shook his head. “Don’t look at me. It’s your turn to pay.”

“I bought the beer the other night.”

“And I got breakfast yesterday morning.”

Xander smiled. “It’s still seventeen dollars.”
