“Scrambled eggs sounds perfect.”
He pulled her in for a kiss. “I cleaned up the trailer today, just in case. I even changed my sheets.”
“Wow. How thoughtful of you.”
“Well, Sage mentioned something about me smelling like a horse the other day.”
Joey laughed. “Not true. But I do love horses.”
“And cowboys?”
“I’m pretty sure I love one particular cowboy.”
“Hmm. And I believe that particular cowboy loves you back.”
Chapter forty-one
"Can we just change the subject?"
When J.T. felt the bed move, he opened his eyes. Joey was sitting on the edge of it, and he reached for her hand.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
She turned to look at him. “To the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”
“Don’t take too long.”
She leaned down and kissed him, then stood as she wrapped a blanket around herself before going into the bathroom. J.T. rolled onto his back. He wasn’t sure how they got so far in such a short time. But he liked it. And as far as he was concerned, there was no going back.
When Joey came back to the bed, she dropped the blanket and climbed in next to him.
He smiled at her. “Good morning.”
“Yes, it is.”
He put his arm around her and pulled her in close. “If I remember correctly, we used the L word last night.”
“Hmm. I think we did.”
“How did that happen?”
“I said it, and then you—”
He put his hand over her mouth. “That’s not what I mean. How did it happen so fast? We were barely amicable neighbors a month ago.”
“Well, I can’t speak for you. But in my case, I’ve loved you since we were sixteen. Actually fifteen. But I didn’t tell you until we were sixteen.”
“I suppose that would explain it.”
She kissed him. “Why do you need an explanation? Can’t we just run with it?”
He laughed, then kissed her. “Yeah. Let’s do that. Let’s just run with it.”
She nodded. “What exactly does that mean?”
“You said it.”
She sat up and wrapped the sheet around herself, then grabbed a pillow and hugged it to her chest. “Are we talking…living together? Are we talking the M word?”
