Sawyer rubbed Sunny’s neck. “I think Sunny has had enough for today. But next time you come back, we’ll do it again.”

J.T. opened the gate and took Sunny’s halter while Sawyer slid off the horse. “Do you want to ride him to the barn?”

“Yeah.”

J.T. looked at Sage and Sawyer. “Thanks guys.”

Sage smiled. “No problem. He’s doing so great.”

She watched as Sawyer, Finn, and J.T. headed for the barn, then she looked at Joey. “Do you want to go say hi to Ember?”

“Yes. And I want to thank her.”

“She told me Finn was perfect.” She glanced at Joey. “And how was your night?”

Joey laughed. “It was a very nice night.”

“Just nice?”

“Unless you want details, yeah.”

Sage held up her hands. “No. Nice is fine.” Joey sighed, and Sage nudged her. “Okay, I believe that was a detail.”

They went through the mudroom to the kitchen and found Ember at the table with several folders and a laptop.

Joey cocked her head. “What’s all this?”

“Hi, Joey. I’ve been doing some medical coding for the clinic. It gives me something to do when Jake’s gone.”

“Sounds…not fun.”

“It’s boring. But it passes the time.”

Sage poured two cups of coffee and handed one to Joey. Then they sat at the table. Joey took a sip, then smiled at Ember.

“Thank you for watching Finn.”

“No problem. Anytime. He’s such a good kid. You’ve done a good job with him, Joey.”

“Thank you. I might take you up on that from time to time. It’s hard to find alone time.”

Ember raised an eyebrow. “So the date went well then?”

“Yes. Really, really well.”

Ember smiled. “You look happy.”

“I am.” She took a sip of her coffee.

“So, there’s going to be a second date?”

Joey nodded. “Definitely.”

“I’m glad you worked things out.” She glanced at Sage. “Maybe Sage will have another excuse to work with Xander on a wedding cake at some point.”

Joey laughed. “I don’t think Sage needs an excuse to go to the bakery. She’s had quite the craving for muffins lately.”

Sage shook her head. “We’re just friends. I’m supporting his business. It’s what we do in Castle Springs. Support each other.”
