“Right. And how often did you visit the bakery before Xander took over?”

Ember smiled. “I have to admit. He’s pretty cute.”

Joey leaned toward her across the table. “Cuter than Jake?”

“Of course not.”

Sage stood up. “Okay, ladies. That’s my dad you're talking about.”

Ember laughed. “Sorry.”

J.T. and Sawyer came into the kitchen and stopped walking when they saw the three women talking.

Sawyer shook his head. “This can’t be good.”

Sage turned toward them. “They were comparing Dad to Xander.”

“How so?”

She sighed. “Who’s cuter.”

J.T. laughed. “No contest. Cowboy trumps baker every time.”

Joey looked at him. “So, you think your dad is cute?”

J.T. shook his head. “Wait a minute. That’s not what I said.”

Sawyer grinned. “It kind of is.”

“Can we just change the subject?”

Joey nodded. “Yes. Where’s our son?”

“On the porch with the dogs. We visited Gilley, and Sparky, and now he’s saying goodbye to the dogs.”

“He loves all of the animals.”

Ember smiled. “I think it’s an O’Connell thing. It took me three months to retrain Rosie to sleep on the floor instead of our bed.”

J.T. nodded. “Rosie saw Dad through some dark times.”

Ember shook her head. “Now you’re making me feel bad.”

He laughed. “I’m sure Dad prefers your company over Rosie’s, no matter how good of a dog she is.” J.T. looked at Joey. “Are youabout ready to go? Or do you need to talk some more about your bakery guy?”

“He’s not my bakery guy. He’s Sage’s bakery guy.”

Sage smiled. “Hold on. He’s not my guy either. He’s justthebakery guy.”

Sawyer leaned against the counter. “Who seems to come up in conversation way too often.”

Joey went to Ember and hugged her. “Thank you again for watching Finn.”

“We loved having him.”

J.T. looked at Sawyer. “When are you going back to Missoula?”

“Thursday.”
