Sawyer was bored and ready for lunch. “Can we take a break please? And get some food?”

“One more store.” J.T. pulled into the parking lot of a strip mall. The store at one end was an unassuming jewelry store.

Sawyer looked at it. “Seriously?”

“It has good reviews on Yelp.”

Sawyer sighed and got out of the truck. Sage got out, too, and looked at him. “You can stay in the truck if you want.”

“No. I’m coming. This place looks sketchy. You might need a bouncer.”

The three of them went into the store and J.T. felt more comfortable than he had in the other stores. It was small, with just a few display cases. It wasn’t pretentious like the other three stores had been.

He nodded. “This is more like it.”

A woman came from the back room and gave them a warm smile. “Good afternoon. What can I help you with?”

J.T. went to the counter. “I’m looking for an engagement ring and a matching band.”

“Congratulations.”

“Thank you.”

She looked at Sage. “Are you the—”

“No. I’m not. I’m the sister.”

“Oh. It’s nice of you to help him out. Did you have something specific in mind?”

“Not really.”

She took two trays with rings from the display case as Sawyer and Sage came up on either side of J.T. He and Sage both spotted the perfect ring at the same time.

He picked it up. “This one.”

Sage nudged him. “Yes. It’s perfect.”

The ring was a solitaire diamond on a white gold band. The woman picked up the band that went with it. It had three small diamonds with pink diamonds separating them. “Do you know her ring size?”

J.T. looked at her. “Um…I have no idea.” He looked at Sage. “Pretty close to Sage, here.”

The woman smiled. “Would you mind if she put the rings on?”

J.T. frowned at Sage. “I guess that’s fine.” He handed the ring to her. “I’m not putting it on you.”

Sage laughed. “That would be a little weird.” She put on the band and the engagement ring. They fit perfectly. “Hmm. Pretty good fit.”

Sawyer shook his head. “What are the chances of that happening?”

Sage studied the rings. “I’d say it’s a sign.” She turned her hand toward J.T. “It’s perfect. Joey will love it.”

He looked at Sawyer. “What do you think?”

Sawyer shrugged. “It’s really nice.”

J.T. squinted at him. “Are you just saying that because you’re hungry?”

“No. I mean it. If I was buying a ring for a woman, I’d go with that one.”
