Joey put a hand on his cheek and kissed him. “I think the thing I can live with is to invite them, but won’t count on any of them attending. But at least I’ll know I did the right thing and them not showing up is on them. They can’t ever say I didn’t invite them.”

“Do you really think they won’t come?”

She nodded. “Yeah. I don’t see that happening.”

He studied her for a moment. “I’m sorry.”

She smiled. “Don’t be. I have you and Finn. And I have the whole O’Connell clan in my corner. What more could I ask for?”

“We could still do it at City Hall. The family could come.”

“No. I want it to be a little more personal than that. I’ve been thinking about my house. We could get married in the living room and stay for the reception.”

J.T. took a moment, then said, “I think that’s perfect.”

“You probably have some friends to invite.”

“A few, I guess. Granddad will want to bring Lucy. And Aunt Genny might invite Brady.”

“I like this plan.”

He leaned toward her and kissed her. “I like it too.” He pulled back onto the road. “And how about a honeymoon? We can stay at the new house that first night. But the next day we can go anywhere you want.”

Joey thought for a moment. “How much time can you get off?”

“It’s my honeymoon. Dad can’t begrudge me taking some time. I could probably get two weeks.”

“How about we spend a week and a half at the house? Just you and me and the new bed you bought.”

He glanced at her. “That sounds like a perfect honeymoon to me.”

Joey nodded. “Just one last thing to discuss.”

“What’s that?”

“When are we going to do this?”

He smiled. “As soon as possible?”

“When will the house be ready to move in to?”

“The appliances are going in this week. The bed is arriving on Wednesday. Sawyer is here until the middle of next week.”

“Let’s get married next weekend, then.”

J.T. pulled over again and took Joey in his arms and kissed her. “I love you Josephina.”

“I love you too. But if you keep stopping, we’ll never get home. And I’d really like to get home.”

He pulled onto the road again. “We’ll be there in five minutes.”

After spending quite a while in bed not sleeping, J.T. and Joey fell asleep in each other’s arms. When J.T. woke up, it was past nine. Joey wasn’t beside him, but he could hear her in the bathroom humming to herself. She’d never sing in front of him, but she’d sing or hum when she thought no one was listening. She was a little off-key, which is probably why she wouldn’t sing in public. But J.T. found it adorable. He found most everything she did adorable.

She came out of the bathroom dressed, and he frowned at her. “Why are you dressed?”

“I’m getting married in five days. I have things to do.”

He sighed. “I guess I should do some extra work this week since we’ll be on our honeymoon next week.”
