Joey smiled at her. “Not interested in him, huh?”

“Shush.”

Xander came from the kitchen and smiled at the three women and Finn. “This looks kind of official. I’m not in trouble for messing with your engagement cake, am I?”

Joey laughed. “No. It was great. Thank you. I’d like to talk to you about my wedding cake.”

“Great. When’s the big day?”

“Saturday.”

He raised an eyebrow. “This Saturday?”

“Yes. Is that too short of notice?”

“No. That’s not a problem. Do you know what you want?”

“It’s going to be a very small wedding. Probably less than twenty people. So nothing too big or elaborate.”

“Do you have a color in mind? Favorite flowers? An idea for the perfect cake you’ve had in your mind since adolescence set in?”

Joey laughed. “No dream cake.” She shook her head. “Actually, when J.T. and I talked about running off to get married in high school, we thought cupcakes would be the coolest thing to do.”

“Cupcakes?”

“Yes. But I don’t want cupcakes.” She thought for a moment. “Teal. I think I want Finn and J.T. wearing teal shirts. So…does that help?”

He went to the cabinet below the cash register and took out a book, then laid it on the counter. He opened it to the middle, then turned it around for the women to look at. “These are smaller cakes. The flowers can be any color. I can do teal.”

Joey flipped through the pages, then stopped at a page with a two-layer cake. It had light yellow frosting and the top layer was covered with tiny roses in a darker yellow frosting. There were vines coming from the roses, winding down the side of the cake with a random rose here and there.

She put a finger on the photo of the cake. “Can you do this in two shades of teal?”

“Yes, I can.”

Joey looked at Sage and Ember. “What do you think?”

Ember smiled. “I think it’s perfect.”

Joey looked at Xander. “This is the one I want.”

“Okay. Great choice. What kind of cake do you want? White, yellow, or chocolate.”

She looked at Sage. “Chocolate, right?”

“J.T.’s favorite.”

Xander nodded. “Chocolate it is. What time is the wedding?”

The question caught Joey off guard. “Um…I’ll have to get back to you on that.”

“No problem. It’s not like I’m super busy.”

Joey closed the book and pushed it toward him. “While I’m here, there’s something else I’d like to run by you.”

“What’s that?”

“I’m hoping to open the bed-and-breakfast in November. And I’ll be expected to make breakfast for my guest. I’d love for you to supply pastries on a regular basis. At least I hope it’ll be a regular basis.”
