“Wow. That’d be great. Anything you need.”

She smiled. “Okay. We’ll talk after I get back from my honeymoon.”

“Where are you going?”

She laughed. “Um, actually we’ll be staying in the new house J.T. just finished building.”

“Nice.”

“I think so.”

“If you need any pastries delivered, I could probably make that happen.”

“We just might.” She took her wallet from her purse. “I assume you need a deposit for the cake.”

Ember put a hand on her arm. “Let me get that.”

“Ember?”

“I insist. Jake and I want to pay for the cake.”

Joey hugged her. “You’re so sweet. Thank you.”

Ember set a card on the counter. “This is Jake’s card, but I promise I have permission to use it.”

Xander laughed and glanced at Sage. “Seems to be a family thing.”

Chapter forty-six

"You're one good looking cowboy."

J.T. was cleaning up his facial hair in the bathroom mirror, and Finn was standing next to him, watching intently. J.T. set down his razor and knelt in front of Finn, then ran a hand over the boy’s cheek.

“Hmm. Won’t be long.”

Finn smiled. “I’m just a kid. I don’t need to shave.”

“Not yet. But in about ten years.”

“That’s a long time.”

J.T. stood. “It’ll go by faster than either of us wants it to. Let’s go finish getting dressed.”

Their teal dress shirts were lying on the bed and J.T. picked up Finn’s and helped him into it, then buttoned it. After tucking it into his black jeans, J.T. stood back and looked at him. “You’re one good looking cowboy.”

Finn smiled. “That’s cause I look like my dad.”

“Damn right. Or, sorry. Darn right.” He picked up his own shirt and put it on, then took the tie, which was the same color, and returned to the bathroom mirror. Finn followed him. “Let me see if I still remember how to tie this thing.”

He hung the tie around his neck and tied the knot without hesitation. “Hmm. Must be like riding a bike.” He turned toward Finn. “What do you think?”

“You’re one good looking cowboy.”

J.T. laughed. “That’s because I look like my son.” He sat on the edge of the bed to put on his boots. “Get your boots on.”

Finn sat on the floor and pulled on his boots. “Can I wear my hat?”

“Yes, you can.” When he heard the front door open, then Sawyer calling from the living room, J.T. called back. “We’re in the bedroom.”
