“I invited him.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I figured since he’s the only baker in town, I should probably stay on his good side. But the best part of that is, I didn’t tell Sage.”

Sawyer laughed. “Okay. I like that. He does make great bear claws.”

J.T. and Sawyer walked over to Xander and he looked at them. “I’m still invited, right?”

“Yes.” J.T. offered his hand. “Thanks for coming.”

Xander looked around the room. “The place looks great. I never saw it before the renovations, but I heard it was in pretty bad shape.”

“It was. Joey has done wonders with the place.”

When J.T. spotted someone he didn’t expect to see come through the door, he excused himself and went to Freddy, who was standing just inside the door in a suit and tie.

“Freddy. I honestly didn’t expect you to come.”

He looked around at the guests, who were mostly O’Connells. “I’d like to talk to Joey if I could. Just really quick before things get started.”

J.T. looked at the time. “That’s about five minutes from now.”

“Please.”

Genny came up beside them and smiled at Freddy. “Freddy, nice to see you.”

“Genevieve.”

J.T. looked at Genny. “He wants a word with Joey before the ceremony.”

She nodded. “I’ll go check with her.”

Sage was tucking the last tiny rosebud into the loose French braid hanging down Joey’s back. She’d chosen an informal dress with a strapless Ivory silk bodice and a full tulle skirt which ended at mid-calf. She felt like a ballerina in it. Which was fun, because as a child, it’s what she wanted to be. The reality of that ended after three years of ballet lessons. But the dream had never quite left her.

Sage was wearing a teal dress which was also cocktail length and looked lovely with her dark hair.

Joey hugged her. “Thank you for being here for me.”

“Of course. With two brothers, I figured I’d never be a maid of honor. But now I’ve done it twice.”

“Well, if you need me to reciprocate, all you need to do is ask.” When Genny came into the parlor, they both turned to her. “Is it time?”

“Almost. Your father is here.”

“Really?”

“Yes. And he’d like to talk to you before the ceremony.”

“About what?”

“I don’t know. But he’s dressed in a suit, so it seems he’s here to stay.”

Joey took a breath. “Okay. Send him in, I guess.”

Genny nodded, then hugged her. “You look stunning.” She looked at Sage. “Both of you do.”

She left and a few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Sage went to open it and she let Freddy inside.
