He stopped inside the door when he saw Joey. “My God. Look at you.”

“You came.”

“Yes. I hope it’s still okay.”

“Of course.”

He took a few steps toward her. “I know you didn’t ask me to do this. And God knows, I have no right to ask. But I’d like to walk you down the aisle…or whatever. If you’ll allow me to.”

Joey was shocked by his request and it took her a moment to answer him. She finally said, “I’d like that, Dad. Thank you.”

Sage smiled. “I’ll tell Genny we’re ready.” She went outside the door for a moment, then returned. “It’s time.”

Joey took a deep breath, then took her father’s arm. “Let’s go.”

They left the room and when Joey saw J.T. and Finn waiting for her at the altar, she stopped breathing for a moment. Freddy patted her hand, and she took a breath as they walked across the living room. When they reached J.T., Freddy let go of her and J.T. took her hand. She could tell by the look on his face, he was as overwhelmed by the way she looked, as she was at him in his teal shirt and tie.

He smiled at her. “Just keep breathing, Josephina.”

The ceremony seemed to be over in a second, and before she knew it, Pastor Tim was telling J.T. to kiss his bride. He did so, then waved for Finn to join them. Finn came and stood between them as the pastor announced them as The O’Connell family. The room exploded in clapping and cheers, and it was done. She was married to the man she fell in love with nine years ago.

Chapter forty-seven

"What if it's something...dangerous?"

J.T. and Joey were dozing, happy to know they didn’t have to get up for anything. The sun was coming through the curtains, so he knew it was late morning. He rolled onto his side and watched Joey for a moment until she sensed his eyes on her and opened hers.

“Good morning, Mr. O’Connell.”

“Morning, Mrs. O'Connell.”

She smiled. “I like the sound of that.”

“How’d you sleep?”

“Wonderfully. Once we got to sleep, that is.”

He grinned. “It was a rather late night.”

Joey stretched. “What time is it?”

“Don’t know. Don’t care. We’re on our honeymoon.” When a notification sounded on his phone, he scowled. “Who’s texting me this morning?”

“A well-wisher?”

“I hope not.” He picked up the phone and read the message. “I know this is a jerk move to text you on the morning after your wedding night, but I thought you might have better things to do than cook breakfast. I left something on your front porch.”

Joey sat up. “Who’s it from?”

“I don’t know. I don’t recognize the number. I guess I’ll go see what’s on the front porch.”

She put a hand on his arm. “What if it’s something…dangerous?”

“Like a bomb?”

She frowned. “No.” She laid back down. “Go see what it is.”

He smiled at her. “You want me to go check out the possibly dangerous and explosive mystery thing left on our front porch?”
