“I’m in the process of sanding and repainting them.”

“Do you have a problem with white?”

She looked at the doorless cupboards, which were still white. “No. I just want something a little more exciting than white.”

“Such as?”

“Forest green. With the kitchen being so big, I don’t think it’ll be too dark. And with the wood countertops stained a darker color. I think it’ll look great.”

“You do get plenty of light in here. There’ll be more once the windows are clean.”

“I haven’t gotten around to that yet.”

Finn sighed loudly and J.T. laughed. “Sorry, buddy.” He finished the ham on his plate. “I’m done now.”

Finn sat forward. “Muffin now, Mom?”

She got to her feet. “Yes. Muffin now.” She looked at J.T. “Do you want one? They’re from the bakery in town.”

“Right. Yes, please.”

She took a box from the counter and brought it to the table. “I like the guy working there. He’s very nice. Is he the new owner?”

“Yes.”

“What happened to Betty?”

“She decided to retire. Xander is her nephew.”

“Oh. Well, he’s very nice.”

“So you said.”

She handed Finn a banana nut muffin, then looked at J.T. “Banana nut or blueberry?”

“Banana nut, please.”

Finn grinned. “It’s my favorite.”

“Mine too.”

Joey took a blueberry muffin for herself. “Do you have a problem with Xander from the bakery?”

“No. Not at all.”

She looked at him for a moment. “You totally do.”

“You might have some competition going after him. Sage seems to think he’svery nice, too.”

Joey scowled at him. “I have no intention of going after anyone. Sage is welcome to him. She has good taste.”

J.T. took a bite of his muffin. “He does make good muffins. And bear claws.”

“You still love bear claws?”

He looked at her, as he remembered the many times they got bear claws from Betty. “It’s not something you outgrow.”

“I suppose not.”
