“That might be hard to do, seeing as Joey’s barely talking to you. Despite the fact she had to live with you for a couple of weeks.”

“My daughter and I are fine. We’re in business together.”

“Hmm. We’ll see how long that lasts. Joey seems pretty upset with the fact you interfered in this situation.”

“Like I said, I did it to protect her. She’ll see that soon enough.”

“The only person she needs protecting from is you.”

Freddy grabbed the front of J.T.’s jacket. “Just watch yourself.”

Sawyer put a hand on Freddy’s shoulder. “Get your hands off my brother.”

Freddy looked at Sawyer, then let go of J.T. as Sawyer stepped between them. “J.T. can’t get into it with you, because it’d be the wrong thing to do, seeing as you’re Finn’s grandfather. But I’m just the crazy uncle. I’d have no problem laying you out on the street.”

Freddy took a step back. “A tough guy, huh?”

“I’m tough enough to take care of you.”

J.T. put a hand on Sawyer’s back. “Come on. Let’s go.”

Sawyer stared at Freddy for a moment. “Stay out of the situation. This is between Joey and J.T. Your interfering is done.”

Freddy cursed, then stepped around Sawyer, bumping his shoulder as he passed by. Sawyer and J.T. turned and watched him stalk down the sidewalk.

J.T. smiled at Sawyer. “I don’t have a problem laying you out on the street?”

Sawyer laughed. “I think he bought it.”

They started walking toward the café. “That probably wasn’t the most diplomatic way to handle it.”

Sawyer shrugged. “He’s a bastard. Diplomacy is never going to work on him.”

J.T. patted Sawyer’s back. “It’s pretty cool having my own bouncer.”

“Anytime, brother. Anytime.”

They continued to the café and went inside. Sage was already there, and she waved at them. When they sat down, she cocked her head.

“What’s going on? You guys look all…jacked up.”

J.T. laughed. “We just had a run in with Freddy Pierson.”

“Yikes. How’d that go?”

Sawyer leaned back in his chair. “I just told him to back off and let J.T. and Joey figure things out.”

“And he agreed?”

“Not really.”

J.T. laughed. “Sawyer told him from about two inches away from his face. He might’ve made a bit of an impression.”

“Oh my gosh, you guys. You can’t be brawling on the street. That’s not going to help anything.”

Sawyer shook his head. “No brawling. I just strongly suggested he mind his own business.”

“I know you guys hate him and he totally deserves to get beaten up by you. But you need to be more diplomatic.”
